Mary Evelyn Cook Taylor passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6 to 8 PM, April 24, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 85 years on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 2 PM at Carillon Neil Chapel. Mary was born on January 26, 1933, to Jack and Amanda (Boston) Cook in Belton, TX. She lived in Slaton and graduated from Wilson High School. On October 12, 1973, she married Homer Taylor in Lubbock. Following their marriage Homer was stationed in Hawaii. They returned to Lubbock 1977. Mary worked for Lubbock National Bank in the Bookkeeping and Loan departments for many years before working in the Lubbock Division of the Attorney General’s Office, where she retired. She was an active member of Trinity Church, Prime Timers, Eastern Star, the Women’s Club, New Neighbor’s Club, along with numerous bridge clubs. She was active with Billy Sims Hub City Wheels and Tumbling Tumbleweeds RV Clubs, where she served as chaplain and secretary-treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lynn Swanner; sister, Louise Maeker; and two brothers, Cecil and Ray Cook.
Mary is survived by her husband, Homer W. Taylor; nieces and nephews, Rodney Maeker, Valton Maeker, Raeland Blackerby, Pat Smith, Gary Cook, Dennis Maeker, Kathy Kingery, and Cydney Payne, and her closest friends, Randy and Becky Underwood.
