Marshall was born to TJ and Fannie Middleton on August 28, 1930, in Lamesa, Texas, where he lived until moving to Lubbock in 1993. Marshall joined the USAF in 1951, serving in Korea for one year. After his discharge, he married Patty Blanton in 1953 and received a BBA in Accounting from Texas Tech University. He became the owner of Middleton Oil Company, a wholesale oil and gas distributorship, for many years. He was also the Sunday School Superintendent at the First Methodist Church. He also served as President of the Lamesa Chamber of Commerce and Lamesa Lions Club. In 1981, he co-formed a non-denominational church, Lamesa Christian Fellowship.
After moving to Lubbock in 1993, he worked at Alderson Motors and then the Welcome to Lubbock Greeter Service. During his years in Lubbock, he served as past president of a board, which he considered the best of boards, the Lubbock Rays of Hope.
Marshall was known best for his deep devotion to Jesus Christ, his love for his family, and his big, beautiful smile.
