Winnie Maria McCoy was peacefully lifted up to a heavenly field of wildwood flowers on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Ultimately she passed away from Alzheimer’s disease. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6 to 8 PM Friday, April 20, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 91 years on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church, Shallowater. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Park, Clovis, NM, at 2:30 PM CDT.
Maria was born in Buchanan County, Virginia, on March 17, 1927. She loved singing and playing the guitar, banjo, and other musical instruments. She was most passionate about gospel, bluegrass and country music. Maria enjoyed sewing, knitting blankets, crocheting, and embroidering. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center in Levelland. Maria was an excellent cook and specialized in baking pastries and making her homemade biscuits and gravy that were loved by all. Her daughter Edith and son-in-law Randy were honored to have helped care for Maria for the past several years. Maria often said that God had richly blessed her with a long life.
Maria was preceded in death by both of her parents, Jessie and Lucy Hunt; her only sibling, Loama Hunt; and her husband, Nath McCoy.
Maria is survived by seven children, Carlene Davis and Charlene Duran both of Albuquerque, NM; Sherman McCoy of Grants, NM; Judy Lopez of Los Lunas, NM; Edith Merrick and husband, Randy of Shallowater, TX; Nathaniel McCoy and wife, Debby of Cypress, TX; and Kelly Rutledge and husband, Mike of Clovis, NM; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a nephew; and great-nephews and nieces. Maria will be missed very much by all of her friends and family.
