Lucille C. Verkamp

The family of Lucille C. Verkamp will celebrate her life of 84 years at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Graveside services will follow in the Englewood Cemetery, Slaton.  She passed on Sunday, February 14, 2021. In support of the health of her family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service. The service will be live-streamed here on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.On March 5, 1936, Lucille was born to Edwin and Ella (Steffens) Verkamp in Wilson, TX.  Following graduation from high school, Lucille attended Draughon’s Business College.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA) for over 40 years.Survivors include her sister, Norma Jean Schwertner; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Verkamp; and thirteen nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; her older brother Robert Verkamp; her younger brother Marvin Verkamp; and nephew Walter Verkamp.Lucille enjoyed her profession at PCCA and continued part-time bookkeeping work after her official retirement. Her greatest joy was her nieces and nephews. She loved taking them on trips and took countless photos of them.
