Lonnie Dalton Reed, 85, of Lubbock, Texas, was called home to Heaven to be with his Lord on March 17, 2025.
Lonnie was born in Spicewood, Texas on April 11, 1939, to Ruby Amelia Naumann Reed and Hubert Ezekiel Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dalton Allen Reed; wife, Patricia Ann Westbrook Reed; brother, Hubert Winfrey Reed; sister, Joyce Elaine Hightower; two great-grandchildren; and four nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly McNease Boudar Reed; daughter, Sherry Cole and husband Jerry; son, Brent Reed and Louisa; son, Darin Reed; three stepsons: Scott Boudar; Brian Boudar and wife Brooke; and Eric Boudar and wife Sonya; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Reed; two nephews and a niece, along with a multitude of cousins and dear friends.
Lonnie was truly a man of many talents who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all his heart. His family was always close to his heart and always in his prayers. He loved his church, and had great concern that every soul come to Christ so they would spend eternity in Heaven. He worked in the bus ministry at his church in Houston, as well as being director of the junior boys Sunday school department, where he never dismissed without giving God’s simple plan of salvation and an opportunity to accept Christ into their hearts. He also served on staff at Heritage Baptist Academy at Freeway Baptist Church in Houston, where he was assistant principal as well as classroom supervisor for junior and high school students.
As a child, Lonnie was a defender of anyone being bullied, and went into boxing in his young teen years, winning the Golden Gloves tournament in Austin at age 14. (They thought he was 16!) Also, at the age of 14, he joined the National Guard, where he served for five years before enlisting in the United States Navy Submarine Service for the next ten and a half years.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he then lived and worked in Houston, selling real estate and health and life insurance for a number of years before moving to Lubbock, where he spent the last 40 years of his life.
During those years in Lubbock, he tried his hand at a variety of things, including writing a book describing his experiences in goldmining with a friend. He also loved searching for treasures with his metal detector. He was an imaginative poet and wrote love poems to Beverly before they married. He got into oil painting in his late sixties, and amazed people with his self-taught talent.
For 20 of those years, he worked as a self-employed house painter and painted hundreds of homes in Lubbock. He even served a 4-year term on the Board of Directors for the Lubbock Central Appraisal District.
Lonnie loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing and camping with family. His music, which he loved to play on a variety of instruments, was extremely special to his heart. And don’t forget football! How he loved his Texas Tech Red Raiders!
Lonnie loved studying God’s Word and spending time sharing daily devotions with his wife.
Lonnie was quite the talker, and loved sharing memories of his time in the Navy Submarine Service with anyone and everyone who would listen.
He was truly a jack of all trades and could do most anything he set his mind to do.
Lonnie Dalton Reed was forever and always a PATRIOTIC AMERICAN who loved his country and his President, Donald J. Trump. But, most of all, Lonnie was known as a MAN OF HONESTY and INTEGRITY and HARD WORK.
Lonnie wanted his family to know that the deepest desire of his heart was that each and every one of them come to a saving knowledge of Jesus so he would be able to spend eternity in Heaven with them.
The last 5-6 years of Lonnie’s life proved to be quite challenging as we navigated the cruel journey that led to advanced dementia. But what a comfort to realize that he always knew who his wife and his children were. He was so very blessed when at last his Lord Jesus held out His welcoming arms and invited Lonnie to “Come on home, My child.”
