Linda Joyce Clinton Ewing passed from this life to her eternal home May 23, 2020. We will celebrate her life of 71 years at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. In support of the health of our community, seating is limited due to the social distancing requirement set by Governor Abbott during the services. Interment will immediately follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery.She was born to John and Esther Clinton on the family farm near Posey, Texas on September 1, 1948. She worked for the Texas Tech library for years prior to working as a records supervisor for the Lubbock Police Department. She became the second female police officer for LPD in 1970. Linda was assigned to many different divisions during her 29-year career in law enforcement and was especially proud to be the first female officer promoted to Sergeant for the Lubbock Police Department. She enjoyed traveling, cruises and her dear ladies’ luncheon and coffee groups. She was honored to serve on several committees including City of Lubbock Retirees and City of Lubbock Ordinance Committees.She is survived by her husband, George Ewing; son, Doyce Ewing (Lori) of Lubbock and daughter, Kathy Tyler of San Angelo; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.Linda was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Jim, and Charles Clinton all of Lubbock; and sister, Marcell Clinton Wynn of Lubbock.

George and family, We are so very sorry for your loss. Linda was such a special and joyful person. Her smile was always contagious. You both hold a special place in our hearts. MO really enjoyed all the years he was able to work with Linda at the LPD. The service was beautiful and such a great remembrance of her. We pray for comfort and peace for you all.

I pray that all of you feel God's presence as he wraps his arms around you to give you comfort. Linda will be missed by so many people who knew her

George please know I was so sad and heart broken to hear of Linda’s passing !! Linda was the best friend I ever had and still is to this day. I loved so. We shared so many wonderful high school memories You will never know how much Ken and I loved you two coming to our 50th Wedding Anniversary I will always treasure that special day we had together . I pray thatGod richly blesses George and the rest of the family with the remembrance of Linda. She was indeed a special person, and a consummate professional with her service to the people of Lubbock. We will al miss her, and I’m sorry I couldn’t make the 1200 mile trip for her memorial service.

I did not know Linda personally, but being affiliated with many police officers and dispatchers through the years allowed me to hear nothing but exemplary comments about Sgt. Ewing. Her life store so nicely portrays what a fine lady she was. My sympathy is extended to the entire family.

I always enjoyed working with Linda through my entire career with the LPD. I looked forward to seeing her and George every April and October at the City retirement meetings at the Garden and Arts. My deepest sympathy to George and the family.

George and Family, I was shocked to hear that Linda was sick and of her passing. I never had Linda as a Sgt., but I felt like she was always looking out for me. George may God be with you during this time of sorry.

George and Family, I was so saddened to hear that Linda is no longer with us. She was an amazing woman, tough as she needed to be but also caring and a genuine friend. She will be missed by so many. I pray that the peace and comfort of Christ is with you all during the difficult days ahead.

I am so sadden by the loss of Linda!! Linda changed every life she touched and I was always so grateful for her guidance and leadership for women into law enforcement!! She was such a class act and always professional and caring!! The world lost a great woman!! My condolences to her family and many friends!!

Me and my partners used to call in our reports on the phone and Linda would print them out while she worked in the office area. Her grammar sure made us look smart. I really appreciated her and then she became a very sharp and dedicated police officer as well. My wife Andrea and I always looked up to her. Linda and I went thru high school together, we weren't close friends but she was always very friendly and nice to me. I had touched base with her on Fb and we had shared about our lives, I hadn't heard any more from her and was wondering about her. I know she will really be missed, she was a net gal to know. George - God Bless and watch over you and y’all’s family. Linda was such a great person and Police Officer/Sergeant. Dad and I admired her and have a lot of respect for her. She was in my academy class and was always encouraging me through out my career. She always had a smile for me when I would see. She is a person who I would never forget.
