Lillie Horton Newsom went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Knox City, Texas on February 20, 1928 to Jim and Beulah Howard Horton. She married Weldon Newsom on January 24, 1946 at her parent’s home in Whitharral, Texas. Weldon went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2000.
She was very involved in her church activities. Lillie served as WMU Associational President, pianist and organist at Whitharral and Morton First Baptist Churches. In later years she played the piano for her Sunday School department at First Baptist Church in Lubbock of which she had been a member since her moving to Lubbock from Dalhart in 2003. As a member of the Eastern Star, she was active in the Levelland chapter and participated in Lubbock chapters.
Most of all she had a love for her family. She was a help mate to her husband helping in every way possible such as bookkeeping, providing meals during harvest of the crops, and preparing the supper meal at 9 or 10 pm. Lillie was a mother to their two sons, Grammie to grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the most wonderful mother-in-law.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jimmie Hayes of Lubbock; a nephew and a great-nephew.
Survivors include her sons, David Newsom and wife, Pam of Amarillo; Joe Newsom and wife, Beverly of Allen; grandchildren, John Newsom and wife, Mikella of Lubbock; Holly Newsom Vinson and husband, Jeff of Lubbock; Lee Newsom and wife, Juliana of McKinney; and Wendy Newsom Pedraza and husband, John of Prosper; great-grandchildren, Luke Vinson of Lubbock, Dylan Newsom of Prosper, Leah Vinson of Lubbock, Rex Newsom of Lubbock, Joshua Pedraza of Prosper and Lillie Vinson of Lubbock. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Saturday, March 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church Chapel, Lubbock. Burial will follow in the Levelland Cemetery
