Leslie Dale Newsom passed away Friday, November 24, 2017. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 87 years on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 4 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel.Leslie Dale was born on September 29, 1930 to Ed and Willie May Newsom in Shallowater, Texas. On February 2, 1951, Leslie Dale married the love of his life, Doris Cordelia Walls in Brownfield, Texas. He served his country in the Texas National Guard from 1950 to 1954. He worked in the oilfields as a roughneck until he started his farming career in 1955 in Smyer, Texas. While living in the Smyer community, Dale served on many boards including Smyer I.S.D., South Smyer Co-Op Gin, Federal Land Bank, Soil and Water Conservation, Texas Farm Bureau and was instrumental in helping with the development of the Denim Mill in Littlefield, Texas. In 1994, it was decided that Dale and Doris would move from the farm to Lubbock. In the year 2000, Dale and Doris decided to retire from farming and begin to enjoy their retirement years.Survivors include his three daughters, Kathy Miller and husband, Bobie of Pasadena, Texas; Connie Shockley and husband, Stan of Richmond, Texas; Debbie Milam and husband, Denny of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Leslie Beyer; Christopher Shockley and wife, Reagin; Russell Shockley and wife, Laura-Ann; and Amy Smith and husband, Trevor; 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family members and good friends.He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Newsom; parents, Ed and Willie May Newsom; brothers, Doyle Calvin and Edward Gene Newsom.The family suggests memorials be sent to University Medical Center Foundation Office – Southwest Cancer Center, UMC Heart Center or the charity of choice. The family would like to thank his personal caregivers, Mary Garcia and Nancy Alaniz for their service, dedication, and kindness to our dad.
