Obituary

Leonard H. Nettles passed from this life on January 31, 2022, in New Home, Texas surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.  He was born on May 24, 1928, in Lake View, Texas to Roy O. and Beulah (Perry) Nettles, the youngest of five children.

He married Rita Jo Phiefer on September 2, 1945. He and Jo were blessed with a daughter Charlotte and a son Danny.  From 1946 to 1995, he was a consummate farmer, and after his retirement, he and Jo enjoyed several years of travel.

Leonard Nettles was a man whose wise counsel was coveted by his church, his family, and his friends. He served the New Home Church of Christ as a deacon for seventeen years and as an elder for thirty-five years. He also served on the board of Lyntegar Electric Cooperative for thirty-six years.

Mr. Nettles was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, two sisters, and his daughter Charlotte Nettles Neece.

He is survived by his wife Rita Jo of New Home; his son Danny and Nancy Nettles of Lubbock; his son-in-law Allen Neece of Westminster, Colorado; his loving grandchildren Rachelle and Gene Link of New Home, Leslie Nettles of Weatherford, Kimberly Gibson of San Antonio, and Landon Neece of Euless; his adoring great-grandchildren Heath Link, Ashton Link, Trent Gibson, Brittney Gibson, and Devin Rhodes; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was the best Papaw you could ever have.

A visitation will be held the evening of Sunday, February 6th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 7th at 10:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.  Pallbearers are Rodney Nettles, Kenneth McClung, Tommy Harmonson, Andy Beck, Karl McDonald, and Jason Gandy. Officiants are Allen Neece and Mike Heatwole.

A special thanks are extended to the caregivers who cared for his every need:  Eva, Rozz, Brenda, and Tanay as well as Calvert Home Health and Hospice.
