Lenora “Nora” Romero of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019, with her family by her side. We will gather to recite the Rosary at 7 pm on Friday, May 10, 2019 followed by a reception at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 81 years at 2 pm Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.Nora was born to Ignacio and Rosa Linda (Martinez) Rodriguez, November 18, 1937, in Hays County. Nora graduated from Buda High School in 1955 and years later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.She was married to Juan Romero in 1957. They moved to Slaton in 1958 and that is where her love of banking began. Nora was proud of her family, friends, and her beloved Red Raiders. Her passions were cooking for everyone that entered her home, her beautiful rose gardens, dancing, gritos, and Texas Tech tailgaiting – especially when playing against the longhorns. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.Nora often said when she died “I want to be buried in my red lipstick, red high heels, and with a bottle of black hair dye.”She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ignacio “Skippy” Rodriguez and four sisters, Refugia “Cuca” Deleon, Helen Alca, Lucy Romero McCoy, and Theresa Rayos.She is survived by her four children, Sylvia Romero, Linda Schoonover, John Romero, and Michael Romero; three granddaughters, Amy (Suzanna) Schoonover, Jennifer (Curt) Phillips, and Sammi Schoonover; and three great-grandchildren, Kaden Stone, Adrienne Fernandez, and Jace Phillips; along with two brothers, Onesimo (Annette) and Alfredo (Francis) ; two sisters, Mary Acosta and Margaret “Margie” and (Abel) Villareal, and her many nieces and nephews.
