Bud was born on February 13, 1936, in Odenville, Alabama. On November 29, 1957, Bud married the love of his life, Judy Shumate, at Skyline Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Bud received a Bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist College and a Master’s degree and Doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
Over the course of 52 years, Dr. Bud served as pastor of Southern Baptist churches in Texas, Montana, Arizona, Louisiana, and New Mexico. Bud was preceded in his homecoming by his parents, Herbert H. and Etta Leoma Goodwin, daughter Cindy Phillips, son James Goodwin, and brother John Goodwin.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Goodwin of the home; daughter, Naomi Smith (Mike) of Lubbock; grandchildren, Daniel Phillips (Jessie) of Killeen; Nicole Matsuda (Kenta) of El Paso; Jeffrey Smith (Cheryl) of Colorado Springs, CO; Jason Smith (Amber) of Plainview; Jonathan Phillips (Kim) of Lubbock; Christopher Smith (Sarah) of Lubbock; Elicia Holt (Garrett) of Albuquerque, NM; Jennifer Chacon (Oscar) of Springdale, AR; Emilie Boston (Dylan) of Hawaii; Matthew Phillips of El Paso; Cody Goodwin of Colorado City; and Wyatt Goodwin of Abilene; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Lee Goodwin (Nancy) of El Paso. Bud is also survived by son-in-law Wes Phillips (Julie) of El Paso; daughter-in-law Cathy Goodwin-Farley (Ricky) of Abilene; and sister-in-law Barbara Goodwin of Vancouver, WA; as well as other family, friends, and former parishioners too many to name.
