Coach Larry Trower passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 57 years Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Slaton High School Gymnasium.
Larry Del was born on February 28, 1959, to Jim and Zandra Trower in Carlsbad, New Mexico. On September 5, 1999, Larry married the love of his life, Cyndi Lawson in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Larry grew up in Carlsbad, where he was a gifted athlete, excelling in the sports of baseball and football. He went on to play both sports at the college level, graduating from Western New Mexico University. Trower then began a long and successful career as a school teacher and coach, holding many positions in the state of New Mexico, including Silver City, Bayard, Gallup, Roswell, Carlsbad, and Clovis. As a head baseball and softball coach, his New Mexico teams won several back-to-back state championship titles. Trower also taught and coached in Cedaredge, Colorado and completed his career as the head girls’ softball coach in Slaton, Texas. He was known and loved for his easy going, fun loving personality, and his beautiful smile. Coach Trower was a great mentor and role model for the students he taught and coached, always making an extra effort to instill responsibility and good character in each of their lives. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and being outdoors. He also loved reading, watching western movies, eating ice cream, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Coach Trower touched the lives of many and he will be sorely missed by his family, his students, his athletes, his colleagues, and his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Cyndi Trower; parents, Jim and Zandra Trower; two sons, Zach Trower, Michael Trower and wife, Kimberlee; three daughters, Heather Trower, Brooke Trower, Leah Arp; daughter-in-law, Diana McPherson; grandchildren, Cameron Perry, Brooke Perry, Logan Trower, Gavin McPherson, Halle McPherson, Deacon Arp, and Harper Trower; three sisters, Lanell Adams and husband, Randy; Machell Takett and husband, David; and Shawna Hitchcock and husband, Don.
His sons, Garrett Trower, and Josh McPherson preceded him in death.
Committal Service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM.
