Lanny received music education from Atlanta Christian College and Florida Atlantic University. He held numerous ministry positions throughout his 40+ year career, including Youth Pastor, Music Pastor, Senior Pastor, and Executive Pastor. Locations of ministry service include Community Christian Church of Plantation, FL, Southeast Christian Church of Louisville, KY, Mount Carmel Christian Church of Stone Mountain, GA, Eastview Christian Church of Bloomington, IL, Arlington Christian Church of Arlington, TX, Raintree Christian Church of Lubbock, TX, Trinity Church of Lubbock, TX, First Assembly of Lubbock, TX, Central Christian Church of Clovis, NM.

Lanny was married to his lovely wife, Joella Matthews Hemmings, and they have three children each from previous marriages.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, is sister Nancy Ruth Owens.

Those left to cherish his memory include wife, Joella Matthews Hemmings of Anton, TX, her children Mark Matthews of Anton, TX, Angi Martin and husband Terry of Olton, TX, and Marci Ramos of Shallowater, TX, Lanny’s children Hannah Elizabeth Jackson and husband Mike of Lubbock, TX, John “Barrett” Hemmings and wife Allison of Houston, TX and Emily Jane Farr and husband Jake of Austin, TX, sister Althea Ray Sine of Coco Beach, Florida and brother-in-law Butch Sine. Grandchildren include Emery Gray Hemmings, Grace Drake, Faith Drake, Jake Jackson, Hunter and Makenzie Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Allie Jackson, Bryson and Kylee Matthews, Zach and Allie Matthews, Pecos Martin, Dusti Jo and Swade Hammonds, Breken Ramos, Rylen Ramos and Easten Ramos. Great-grandchildren include Everett Jackson, Steelee Martin, Asher Matthews, Quincy Hammonds and Isla Hammonds. Nieces include Leigh Waters, Jennifer Duncan and Susan Burns.

Lanny held many revivals from coast to coast and participated in mission work in New Zealand and Kenya, Africa. He taught in several bible colleges regarding worship leading and music ministry. Lanny directed and led music for many state and national conventions. He loved building music/worship ministries and loved singing all his life. Teaching and preaching the Word was his favorite thing in the world.

I was blessed to be be in the choir at Eastview with Lanny as the director. The Living Christmas Tree productions were the highlight of the year. His smile, encouragement, faith, concern and love for every person in the music ministry and faithfulness to God were so evident. He touched many people and will be greatly missed.

Joella and family: It saddened me to learn of Lanny”s passing from this life. But I also rejoice that he has gone home to be with his Lord. May the God of all Comfort comfort you in this time of loss. His contributions to Christian ministry in a wide spectrum were known by me long before he came to Central in Clovis. It was there I came to know him more closely as a friend and brother. THANK GOD FOR HIS LIFE!

We will miss our Brother and our hearts go out to the family. We know that he is in the palm of God's hand and singing praises to Him in the very presence of our Lord! Always a great encourager and an inspiration to follow his example for ministry. Thank you Brother, we can't wait to sing with you again!

There aren’t words to say how sad I am about Lianny’s passing. He was a rock to me & my family 16 years ago when our grandson was killed in accident. & our daughter was hanging on for her life. He came 3-4 times a week to Amarillo to visit us & pray. I will never forget him & his love for our family. We will miss him Our love & prayers to all the family

Lanny was a class mate at Atlanta Christian College. He inspired me and was a great encouragement. He was a brilliant vocalist. I have many fond memories of him singing in chapel. Thanks for your friendship till we meet again. Prayers are lifted up for the entire family; may God's grace cover you.

I knew him at Southeast. Full of life and music and praise. I’m sure he still is. ❤️🙏🏻

I remember him practicing his song for Sunday service all alone in sanctuary, what a God given gift, he would really sing our because he didn’t realize I was listening.🙏❤️

All round good man of God.

Lanny was a wonderful man, and friend. He was my choir director when he served in Arlington. Tx. He was a wonderful music minister, and his voice was amazing. Our family loved him very much. Prayers for his family.

Lanny had one of the most beautiful voices and was such a gifted worship leader when we attended Arlington Christian Church. Made a special trip to Lubbock to hear him preach and he was just as gifted in that respect as well. We truly loved him and his entire family. Can't wait to rejoin him in Heaven. Prayers for all the family.
