Lanny Hemmings was born on August 25, 1954, to the late Perry William Hemmings of Dobson, NC and Mattie Ruth Nance Hemmings of Winston Salem, NC. He was also raised by his late stepmother Melba Faylene Hemmings of Black Mountain, NC.
Lanny received music education from Atlanta Christian College and Florida Atlantic University. He held numerous ministry positions throughout his 40+ year career, including Youth Pastor, Music Pastor, Senior Pastor, and Executive Pastor. Locations of ministry service include Community Christian Church of Plantation, FL, Southeast Christian Church of Louisville, KY, Mount Carmel Christian Church of Stone Mountain, GA, Eastview Christian Church of Bloomington, IL, Arlington Christian Church of Arlington, TX, Raintree Christian Church of Lubbock, TX, Trinity Church of Lubbock, TX, First Assembly of Lubbock, TX, Central Christian Church of Clovis, NM.
Lanny was married to his lovely wife, Joella Matthews Hemmings, and they have three children each from previous marriages.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, is sister Nancy Ruth Owens.
Those left to cherish his memory include wife, Joella Matthews Hemmings of Anton, TX, her children Mark Matthews of Anton, TX, Angi Martin and husband Terry of Olton, TX, and Marci Ramos of Shallowater, TX, Lanny’s children Hannah Elizabeth Jackson and husband Mike of Lubbock, TX, John “Barrett” Hemmings and wife Allison of Houston, TX and Emily Jane Farr and husband Jake of Austin, TX, sister Althea Ray Sine of Coco Beach, Florida and brother-in-law Butch Sine. Grandchildren include Emery Gray Hemmings, Grace Drake, Faith Drake, Jake Jackson, Hunter and Makenzie Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Allie Jackson, Bryson and Kylee Matthews, Zach and Allie Matthews, Pecos Martin, Dusti Jo and Swade Hammonds, Breken Ramos, Rylen Ramos and Easten Ramos. Great-grandchildren include Everett Jackson, Steelee Martin, Asher Matthews, Quincy Hammonds and Isla Hammonds. Nieces include Leigh Waters, Jennifer Duncan and Susan Burns.
Lanny held many revivals from coast to coast and participated in mission work in New Zealand and Kenya, Africa. He taught in several bible colleges regarding worship leading and music ministry. Lanny directed and led music for many state and national conventions. He loved building music/worship ministries and loved singing all his life. Teaching and preaching the Word was his favorite thing in the world.
