Kenneth Larry Brownfield passed away on April 29, 2023. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A service to celebrate his life of 96 years is scheduled at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church with a graveside to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park Mausoleum. Kenneth, known to many as Ken was born on October 18, 1926, on a farm in Scurry County, TX. the first of four sons to Andrew Larry and Erma Faye (Watts) Brownfield. His family moved to Woodrow when he was two to farm, which he helped with from a very young age. Following graduation from Cooper Rural High School, Ken served in the Army Air Corps for a few years. While serving he was assigned to Personnel and he was able to send himself to the Amarillo Airfield where he attended mechanic’s school. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Woodrow to see his girl, Erness Deering. They married on September 8, 1947, in Carlsbad, NM. Ken went to work for Furr’s Grocery in Lubbock, working his way up from package boy to store manager. In 1962, he left Furr’s and went to work for the US Postal Service. He worked in postal maintenance and had over 160 Post Offices to maintain in the Texas/ Oklahoma Panhandle and Kansas. Ken retired in 1989 and he and Ernees traveled extensively visiting all 50 states and many countries. Ken was a Christian and most recently attended Calvary Baptist Church with his daughter, Laura.
Ken is survived by his children, Rebecca (Ronald) Bryant, Laura (Michael) Skeen, Larry (Carla) Brownfield, and Stanley (Debbie) Gregory; grandchildren, Laura (C.J.) Egan, Christopher Bryant, Aimee (Adam) Dowgar, Matthew (Lauren) Brownfield, Bryan (Kendi) Skeen, and Erin Brownfield; and great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Egan, Flannery Brownfield, Molly Brownfield, Colton Dowgar, Matelda Brownfield, Charlee Dowgar, and Gemma Skeen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Erma Brownfield; his wife of 71 years, Ernees Brownfield; and three brothers, Donald, Floyd, and Melvin Brownfield.
