Kathryn Theresa CdeBaca was born June 28, 1933, to William Marshall and Catherine Annette (Hendrich) Kemp in Pampa, TX. Kathryn was the youngest of four children while growing up on the family farm. She graduated from Petersburg High School in Petersburg, TX.
After high school she attended Plainview Business College, where she took courses to be a business secretary. After graduating she went to work as a secretary for Southwestern Public Service in Plainview, TX. Kathryn worked for 12 years and enjoyed working and traveling with her friends during this time.
She met Jerry Robert CdeBaca, of Lubbock Texas at the Knights of Columbus Valentine’s Day Dance at the Plainview Country Club. Soon after he asked her out on a date, and their relationship blossomed. They dated for a year before he proposed to her.
They were later married on June 20, 1964, and Kathryn married the love of her life, Jerry, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview. They were happily married for 56 years. They had three children, Dennis, Brian, and Teresa.
After marrying, Kathryn started a small childcare business out of their home so she could stay at home with her children. After her children were all in school, she went back to work as a secretary in the law office of Elroy Simnacher. She finished her professional career as a secretary working for the High Plains Underground Water District.
Over the years, Kathryn enjoyed going to sporting events to watch her children and grandchildren play soccer, basketball, baseball, football, and dance. She supported Jerry and his passion for soccer for over 30 years.
A devoted, lifelong Catholic, Kathryn was active in Christ the King Cathedral Catholic Church. She assisted with RCIA classes, the Women’s Organization, bereavement meals, Altar Linens Committee, Gather Group, lecturer at daily Mass on Monday’s, Eucharistic minister, counting weekly donations, grief support, Liturgy Commission, and she always willing to volunteer at the church as needed.
She is survived by her children, son Dennis and wife Tracie, son Brian and wife Christi, daughter Teresa Edwards and husband Jeff; 11 grandchildren: Halie Tindol, Trey CdeBaca; Katie, Audrey, Luke CdeBaca; Matthew, Anna, Andrew, Rachel, Sarah, James Edwards; and six great-grandchildren Hunter, Brady, Sadie, and Stoney Tindol, and Maelee and Ember CdeBaca.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry CdeBaca, her parents, brothers Marshall Kemp, Clarence (Bud) Kemp, Albert Kemp, and sister-in-laws Tillie Kemp, Naomi Kemp, and Betty Kemp.
Kathryn loved all her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow. Some advice she would give to her grandchildren is to never forget that you are valued and you are loved, and don’t forget to always love and value others. Become a good listener. Discover your own talents and become the best you can with them. Don’t try to be somebody else. Think for yourself. Don’t assume that the majority is right. Stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Don’t be intimidated by bullies. Be a loyal friend. Always value people over things, a good friend above popularity. Save money regularly, even if it’s only a little. Never stop dreaming; never stop believing; never stop loving.
Kathryn will be missed dearly. May she rest in the Lord’s peace. She passed away peacefully Monday, September 16, 2024, at the age of 91.
