It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Kathryn Sue Victory Johnston, age 67, who died peacefully from natural causes. Kathryn was born on May 12, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas, to a loving family that nurtured her passion for education and community service.
Dr. Johnston earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and her Master of Science at Texas Tech University. She furthered her education by attaining a PhD in Community Health from Texas Woman’s University. A dedicated university educator, Kathryn shared her knowledge and expertise at various institutions including Parker Chiropractic, El Centro Community College, and Texas Christian University, inspiring countless students along the way.
In addition to her academic achievements, Kathryn was a licensed funeral director. She took great pride in her role at Rix and Franklin – Bartley Funeral Homes, a family-owned business where she served with compassion and dedication.
Kathryn is survived by her loving husband, Jack Johnston; her brother, Whitney Victory II; her sister, Michele Victory; and children, Joseph Johnston, Philip Johnston, Michael Johnston, and John Myers. She was also a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Reagan, Erin, and Walker Johnston.
Honorary pallbearers will include Jason Vick, Gary Gramms, Bill Sheer, Jesse Martinez, Juan Martinez, Mike Martin, Paul Rivera, Coby Bullion, Ross Rutherford, Riley Morris, Alvin Morris, and David Kinnison.
As we remember Kate, we celebrate her remarkable life, her dedication to education, her commitment to her community, and her loving spirit that touched so many. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Dr. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Whit and Sue Victory.
Services will take place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 2:00 PM.
