On July 21, 1950, Karon Ruth was born to James and Ruth Slough in Perryton, Texas. She grew up in Dimmitt, Texas where she graduated from high school. Then earned an education degree with a specialization in Special Education from West Texas University. She taught for over 30 years in the Dimmitt and Tahoka ISDs, where she loved and was loved by her students. She also coached and appraised Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination for most of those years. Karon dedicated herself to being involved in the ministry of her local church. She taught Girls in Action, VBS, and was very active in a Clown Ministry for years. Karon found immense joy in singing to and about her Lord, Jesus Christ. She sang in the Gospel group Sweet Assurance, and was a charter member of the Singing Women of West Texas, where she remained a member until her passing.
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Tom) Quinn, Robert (Barbara) Moss, James (Amy) Moss; grandchildren, Brandon Moss, Katelynn Quinn, Evan Moss, Austin Moss; siblings, Edna (William) Rice and Joyce Vilseck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Slough, siblings, James, and Russell Slough.
