Born Jewel Dean Hardie to Leslie and Dessie Hardie in Nashville, Arkansas, on October28, 1923; Judy graduated from Nashville High School and attended Harding University. Upon receiving her teaching credentials, Judy was teaching 3nd grade in Camden, Arkansas, when she met the love of her life, Frank Butler. They were married on December 25, 1945, in Texarkana, Texas. After beginning their family in Brenham, Texas, they moved to Lubbock in 1959, where Judy became an active member of the Broadway Church of Christ, the women’s division of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, and various bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Dessie Hardie, her sister, Ruthel Henderson, and her son, Bill Butler. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Frank Butler, her daughter, Karen Wade, daughter- in- law, Anita Butler, son- in- law, Bill Wade, and grandchildren, Stephen Wade, Jennifer Hipp, Michael Butler, Rachel Butler and great- granddaughter, Kaley Hipp. Jewel Dean (Judy) Butler returned to the arms of her Lord on Monday June 6, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Home of Lubbock.
