Joyce Edwards Scott

The family of Joyce Edwards Scott will celebrate her life of 85 years at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022, at a small graveside service at the Terrace Cemetery in Post, TX. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.  She passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Joyce was born to HJ and Merle Edwards on March 27, 1937, in Slaton, Texas. She was the second of three daughters born to HJ and Merle. She spent much of her childhood with her sisters, Carolyn and Lou, working on the family farm in Pleasant Valley.  She graduated from Southland High School.

Joyce started nursing school but put her career plans on hold when she met Charles. She knew the minute she met him that they were meant to be together. Joyce and Charles married on December 23, 1955. For 49 years, they worked together on the family business, enjoyed traveling the world together, and in later years, worked on their small ranch in Pleasant Valley.

Joyce lived in the Lubbock area for her entire life, except for a short stint in Georgia. Though she loved to travel, Joyce also loved being at home and took pride in keeping a beautiful home. She was an avid collector of antiques. Joyce was a long-time member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. When she was no longer able to attend, she enjoyed watching televised services every Sunday.

Joyce loved music. She was a self-taught pianist who couldn’t read a note but could play almost anything by ear.  Her taste in music was broad: She loved New Orleans jazz, the Mamas and the Papas, Don Williams, and the Stray Cats, among others. Recently, she was even “caught” listening to Hip Hop.

She is survived by six children and their spouses – Terri and Tony Pricer of Lubbock; Rick and Lori Scott of Lubbock; Greg and Debra Scott of Slaton; Lisa Gilliam of Dallas, Donna and Bill Tilley of Colleyville, and Bryan Scott of Stuart, FL.

Eleven grandchildren – Steven Scott, Meagan Baker, Mackenzie Kirkpatrick, Morgan McCall, Jenni Rudder, Olivia Gilliam, Derek Jensen, Rachel Tilley, Camber Clemence, Peyton Scott, and David Scott.

Twelve great-grandchildren – Skyler Scott Thomson; Knox, Bowen, and Jaynie Baker; Merritt and Mack Kirkpatrick; Graham and Finley McCall; Ledgin Rudder; Catherine and Elizabeth Clemence; and Layne Sauer.

Two sisters, Carolyn Moss of Lubbock, and Lou Gamble of Slaton, along with her brother-in-law, Larry Gamble; niece April Gamble; and nephews Mark Moss and Garrett Gamble.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Scott; her granddaughter, Tiffany Ivy; and her grandson, Craig Ivy.

MEMORIALS

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s or Hospice of Lubbock in her memory.
