Juan “John” M. Ortiz, age 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020 in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Family and friends will gather to recite the Holy Rosary on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers followed by Mariachi music from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Christ the King Cathedral followed by a committal service at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. For those unable to attend, the rosary will be live streamed through Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers website, and the funeral service will be live streamed through Christ the King Cathedral.
John was born on September 9, 1950, in Del Rio, Texas, to Natividad and Olivia (Andrade) Ortiz. He attended Dimmitt High School where his love for music began. Later in life John joined the bands New Epic and Cervantez & Company where he played the trumpet. He spent his life and career in Lubbock, where he graduated from South Plains College and attended Texas Tech University. He was a proud Red Raider and Saddle Tramp.
John’s passions included family, music, and building close friendships, which drew him to a successful career in sales. He had a long and diverse professional career across multiple industries.
John and Sylvia Rangel were married for thirty-nine years. Survivors include his two children that were his pride and joys, Jennifer Marie Ortiz, John Paul Ortiz, wife, Emily Baselt; his mother, Olivia Ortiz; sister, Rosa Ortiz, and husband, Robert Crespin; brother, Salvador Ortiz and wife Chole; sister, Eliza Rodriguez and husband Rojelio; brother, Danny Ortiz and wife, Roxanne; brother, Gustavo Ortiz and wife Esmie; sister, Becky Ortiz and husband, Jose Martinez. John also has an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and the family dog, Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Natividad Ortiz.
In support of the health of his family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service and visitation. The service will be live-streamed and be available for thirty days on this page.
