On Monday, November 15, 2010, God our Savior called John Irvin Farquhar home. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 74 years at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at Oakwood Baptist Church. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow in church parlor.John was an avid golfer and became Texas Tech’s first Southwest Conference Champion in any sport. As an amateur golfer, he played in the Master’s four times and the National Open twice. He was also a member of the 1971 Walker Cup Team. John was also inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Carolyn Wilmeth in Spearman, Texas.He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern Henry and Ada Grace Farquhar, and his sister, Joan Miller.John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn; son, John Wilmeth Farquhar of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Kristi Anna Adams and husband Jamie of Lubbock, TX; three grandsons, Ryan Richardson, Logan Richardson and J. J. Adams, all of Lubbock, TX; sister, Jane Oliver and husband Bo of Richardson, TX; brother-in-law, Dee Miller of Amarillo, TX; several nieces and nephews; and their beloved Shih Tzu, Muffin.Memorials are suggested to Ecclesia Church, 6007 66th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79424.
