John Harvey Lutrick

John Harvey Lutrick was born in Hale County to Mabel and T.E. Lutrick on November 18, 1928. The Lord called his angel home on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He lived in the Lakeview community and attended Lakeview schools for seven years then graduated from Abernathy High School in 1946. He married Edna Faye Ledford on November 21, 1947 who was still by his side. During his high school years, he was very active in sports and in 1946 was one of six basketball players, state wide, to make the all-state team. He received a scholarship to Texas Tech, attended one year, then began farming north of Abernathy in 1949 until he retired in 2000. After several years of retirement, he decided to get his real-estate license at the age of 75, working for Lutrick Real Estate for five years. Then 4-7’s Oil Company hired him to sale oil leases in Hale County and he did so until his final retirement date. During his farming career, he was director and president of Abernathy Co-op gin for 20 years. He spent many years active in the Abernathy Methodist church serving as finance chairman and trustee. He was a backer of the Junior Livestock show and on the board at Hale County Livestock show. He was given the honorary degree and farm family of the year in Abernathy. He was active in the Abernathy Country Club and donated equipment to begin the golf course. After moving to Lubbock in 2003, he moved his memberships to Lakeridge Methodist Church and Hillcrest Country Club which he joined in 1968. Harvey is survived by his wife Faye; his son, Johnny and wife Phyliss of Ransom Canyon; a grandson, Logan of Lubbock; a great granddaughter, Lily, of Idalou and a sister, Bell Baker of Bay Town. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
