A beloved father, partner, and friend, John embodied living life to its fullest. As a father, he was ever his son’s biggest supporter, and they shared a love of storytelling and westerns together. He was as bold as he was steadfast, a man of strong morals and character who wasn’t afraid to instigate fun trouble, either. John’s work ethic earned him high respect from those around him; he led through example. A man of quiet, dauntless strength, his accomplishments, much like his Christian faith, were never boastful, but always spoke for themselves through his works. He magnetized people from all walks of life to him, and he never let differences get in the way of being a true friend.
John served for the past eighteen years as an officer for the Lubbock Police Department, and before then, for the Texas Tech Police Department, earning numerous commendations throughout his career. He came to mentor and train many officers, and always helped those in need. He was a fighter, especially for justice. Highlights of his career with the Lubbock police Department include being a member of the Lubbock Police Department Mounted Patrol and serving as a detective in the department. His dedication as a peace officer is a testament that this world is worth saving; that life… life is worth living.
Wise from experience, he wore many hats: a cowboy, hunter, mechanic, electrician, entrepreneur, artist, and romantic. Among his favorite hobbies was leatherworking, where he created gifts for loved ones and designed the Texas Tech Masked Rider halters. He loved restoring his father’s 55’ chevy pickup and spending time with good company. He worked hard for what he had and worked harder still to enjoy what he earned. He measured his wealth in experiences and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Eric David Barber and Carolyn Carver, and his sister, Sherri Mulloy.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Eric Barber; his partner of ten years, Georgette Dewbre and her two children, Garrett and Grant Dewbre; nephews Sean and Atlas Mulloy, and niece Olivia Mulloy; and friends from all over.
