Joel “Jay D” Orta passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019. We will gather to recite the Holy Rosary on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at 6:00 pm, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. We will celebrate his life of 50 years at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.”Jay D” was born January 25, 1969, to Felix and Gregoria Orta in Lubbock, Texas.There are no words to express the impact Jay D. had on those he met in his short life. He was outgoing, always smiling, kind, generous, and truly selfless. The many broken hearts left behind are a testament to that. His passions included enjoying time with his family, the Seattle Seahawks, and, most of all, Tejano music. Some of his happiest moments were spent behind a mic as a radio Deejay.Survivors include his mother, Gregoria Orta; nine sisters, Lucy Cuevas, Lorenza (Adolph) Flores, Janie Martinez, Frances (Kevin) White, Marylou (Jacinto) Vasquez, Irene (Robert) Vara, Valentina Orta, Alice (Jerry) Guzman, and Monica Orta; five brothers, Benito (Connie) Orta, Felix Orta, Jr., Johnny (Norma) Orta, David Orta, and Adam Orta; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Felix M. Orta.Our family would like to thank the Franco, Benavides, Lara, and Walmart families, as well as his countless friends, for all the love and support they showed Jay D. throughout his life.

Brother its been almost 2weeks since you left us. I continue to struggle without your presence, but I promise to move on. I have only great memories of us all. I'll think of you always and of the generous, courageous, thoughtful, loving person your were to everyone. You meant the world to me, but I'll continue to move on with the help of my brothers and sisters(mom too). I'll keep you forever in my heart. I'll see you one-day soon. For now just rest in peace. It's been a few days and it is still surreal that our little brother Joel is gone. He will be missed by many, as is evident by all of the condolences and comments left by those he touched. Jay D. was a special kind of person and I can only aspire to be like him, even just a little. Joel, you were always so busy taking care of others, but now you can rest easy until we all meet again. Thanks for the memories. I love you always and miss you already. "Say not in grief 'he is no more', but in thankfulness that he was..."

My son's Enoch, Abraham n Adrian considered him more of a brother than just a Special Friend. He nicknamed my mom Mrs' Smith and she turned around and nicknamed him Mr Jones.
