Joe Lara, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on August 8, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas. He left this world peacefully on April 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, pride, and memorable moments.
Joe proudly served his country in the Army for seven years, a commitment that shaped his values and deepened his appreciation for life and family. After his military service, he worked as a Lieutenant at the Prison, later embarking on a rewarding career as a Library Assistant in the Law Library at Texas Tech University, where he was known for his dedication and passion for helping others nurture their love for knowledge.
As a family man, Joe was a proud father to his children, Nicole (Donnie) Briggs, Samantha (Caleb) Smith, Joe Lara Jr., and Felipe (Elizabeth) Lara, and cherished grandfather to his grandchildren: Angelina Briggs, Alexander Briggs, Bradley Lara, Mia Lara, April Lara, and Willow Lara. His love for his family was immeasurable, and his pride in their achievements knew no bounds. Joe found immense joy in rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and his enthusiasm was contagious during game days, making those moments cherished memories for all who gathered with him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Lara, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind his devoted siblings, Mary Alice (Robert) Otero, Lupe Lara Jr., John Lara, Sylvia Alvizo, Steve Lara, and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
A celebration of Joe’s life will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, followed by a reception with family and friends.
As we remember Joe, we will celebrate his legacy of love, military pride, and deep commitment to family and community. His joyful spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
