James Larry Hand, lovingly known as Coach Hand, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 63 years on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 2 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with a reception to follow.
Jim was born on December 4, 1954 to the late Fay and Nelda (Gillham) Hand in Canyon, TX. He graduated from Happy High School and received his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University. On June 9, 1990, James married, Janeal Flathers Morrow in Perryton, Texas. He spent his life as an educator and coach in Friona, Perryton, Sunray, Plainview, Canadian, Borger, Stratford and Lamesa. He truly felt that he “never worked a day in his life”.
Survivors include his wife, Janeal of Lubbock; two sons, Matt Keith Morrow and wife, Lindsey of Lubbock; and James Mark Hand of Midland; two grandchildren, Maddie and Conner Morrow; brother, Travis Andrew Hand and wife, Brenda of Washburn; sister, Connie Hirsch and husband, David of Canyon; father and mother-in-law, Neal and Janice Flathers of Perryton; brother-in-law, Clay Flathers of Dallas; a very special friend, Drucy Cockrell of Higgins; several nieces and nephews and thousands of his “kids”.
