Jerry was born on August 27th, 1939 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His parents were Brent Leroy and Carrie Adelia Nichols. He graduated from Abernathy High School, spent two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas. Jerry later attended Texas Tech and ACU.
In 1963, he married Linda Lou Burnett and had three children – Terri, Jerry Dan “Buddy”, and Sandy. After moving to Lubbock, Jerry began his lifelong passion of dealing in cars. He worked at various dealerships before owning his own South Plains Motors.
In 1981, he married his beloved Myra Jane Chestnutt, and together they created a beautifully blended family with the addition of Jane’s three children, Cathy, Cody, and Chad. They enjoyed 43 wonderful years of marriage together. While still living in Lubbock, In February of 2020 they retired to their cozy “barndominium” surrounded by pine trees where they felt like they were in the mountains. They enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the birds, squirrels and the occasional fox and rabbit, or sitting inside watching Monterey Church of Christ online services, Texas Tech ball games, Westerns, and listening to music. Extending their backyard time would include visiting with family and watching their young’uns swim.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda; parents, Brent and Carrie and sister, Esther Young.
Jerry is survived by his wife Jane Nichols; sister Janice Johnson; daughters Terri Buxton of Granbury, Cathy Noble (Brent) of Lubbock, Sandy Gordon of Lubbock; sons, Buddy Nichols of Weatherford, Cody Chestnutt (Erinn Rudkins) of Lubbock, Chad Chestnutt of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended church family.
