Jerome Gladden Garry, Jr., “Jerry”, completed his earthly journey and was welcomed by his Lord to begin a new eternal life on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Jerry was born in Fresno, California to parents Lou and JG Garry, Sr. on April 17, 1943.Jerry was a devoted son, protective big brother, loving husband, and supportive father, but he will be remembered most as a brilliant artist and insatiable dreamer who had a never-ending curiosity for people and their stories. He was an all-around charmer, who made fast friends with everyone he met.Early in his career Jerry worked as a painter at Jones Sign Company before starting his own business, Custom Signs in the mid 70s. Many South Plains businesses, high school gyms and townships exhibited Jerry’s hand painted masterpieces long after he retired in 1993 due to struggles with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Jerry’s renowned stubbornness helped him to battle MS for the past 24 years, never giving up hope that he would walk again.A thirst for adventure led him to wear many hats throughout the years, most notably: racecar driver, little league coach, Frenship Booster Club President and sports photographer. He was an early adopter, always excited to try new things like HAM radios, mobile phones, microwave ovens and computers—before they became the norm. However, bragging about his kids, grandkids and great grandkids was his favorite pastime, followed by watching old westerns, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys on TV.Jerry is preceded in death by his one and only love and wife of 55 years, Sharon, who transitioned this past August; first-born daughter, Renea; brothers, Mike and Patrick; and parents Lou and JG Garry, Sr. of Lubbock, Texas.Jerry’s life and legacy are celebrated by his surviving siblings, Fred Garry of Harrison Arkansas, Steve Garry of Lubbock and Becky Yates of Lubbock; his remaining children Genea Garry mother of Johnnathan, who is husband to Whitney; Michelle Garry mother of Ivy; Jay Garry husband of Dawn and father of two sons Gunner and Jagger; his grandkids and great grandkids: Lainie McWhorter Davis, mother of Hunter, Haley, and TJ; Leigh Ann McWhorter; Bethany McKee, mother of Kynleigh and fiancé of Alex Webster; Corbin McKee father of Payson and fiancé of Kelsey Bigham.Among the hundreds of friends and family members who are left to mourn his loss include: lifelong friends Minnie and Rudy Garcia, Frances Edwards and Isaias Rosales.
