He was born on August 17, 1940, to Floyd and Madelle Dunn in Houston, Texas. He married Sandy Harrington on December 21, 1960, in Orange, Texas. Jerry received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and his Doctor of Philosophy from Georgia Tech. He taught as a university professor, first at Auburn University and then at Texas Tech University. Along this journey he fathered 4 children. Deborah, firstborn, was born in Texas. Donna was born in Georgia. Stacy and Stephen were both born in Alabama. Out of all the wonderful things you will hear about our father today, his relationship, faith and trust in God was the pillar that guided his life.Through the years Jerry’s hobbies included running track, which he did for Lamar, playing tennis, water skiing at Lake Martin, canoeing, following the football and basketball teams where he lived, singing in the choir, and volunteering at Word of Hope. His passions throughout his life were his faith, his family, and his teaching. He was a dedicated professor to his engineering students and a devoted Sunday school teacher, a talent that was passed to him from his mother. He raised his children with lots of love and attention, encouraging them in whatever spoke to their hearts, whether it was music, sports, or horseback riding. Jerry set the example of consistent guidance that was quick to love, slow to anger, and always in the church. When his 10 grandchildren and later 13 great-grandchildren came along, he happily held them, played with them on the floor, and traveled to spend long visits or watch them in whatever activity they were in. His greatest love in this life, was to that of his devoted wife, Sandy. They were very rarely apart throughout their life, traveling to see their family in east Texas every summer and Christmas, visiting their own kids and grandkids, and later traveling on trips to see the world, always capturing moments in photos with their arms around each other.Survivors include his wife, Sandy Dunn; their children, Deborah (Karl) Hunt, Donna (Tom) Howey, Stacy (Marty) Baker, and Stephen (Dara) Dunn; grandchildren, Chance (Nicci) Hunt, Kyle Hunt, Tanner Hunt, Kurt Hunt, Keith (Texanna) Howey, Lauren (Neil) Turner, Jarrod (Katie) Howey, Cooper Howey, and Tait and Tess Dunn; great-grandchildren, Bryndal, Mailie, Harper, and Adley Hunt, Hazel, Winnie and Townes Turner, Sadler, June, and Webb Howey, and Hudson, Griffin, and Brock Howey. Our beloved father will always be missed but the legacy that he leaves behind will be seen in the many lives he touched.
