Janet Leah Garrett was born December 31st, 1966 and was totally healed as she went to heaven on July 3rd, 2025. She was 58 years old.
Janet’s first 10 years were in Mt. Dora, Florida where she was the baby of seven born to Ralph and Jearldyne Kelley. They moved to Lubbock in 1977 so that Mr. Kelley could go to the Sunset School of Preaching. In 1981 the family moved to Brownfield her junior year of high school.
Janet worked in Senior administration at NTS for several years until her first born, Storm was born April 25th 1998. For years, she owned and operated a bakery specializing in exquisite wedding cakes and loved to bake and cook her entire life, and more recently many types of amazing bread.
Darcy was born June 21st, 2001 while Janet ran the bakery.
Several years later Janet graduated from Lubbock Christian University, then worked in administration and taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Waters Elementary and later at Trinity Christian School.
Janet met Tim Garrett at a bistro/bakery in Vintage Township on January 11th, 2010 when she was working there her first day. After Tim tried to drop by and catch her several more times, (not knowing she only worked there 2 days a week) they had their first date 2 weeks later on January 25th. They were engaged at the Kelley Family Reunion (which annually has around 150 in attendance) with Tim’s daughters Tiffany and Baylee, and Storm and Darcy on the beach in Florida on June 2010 and married November 12th, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas. Since day one, Janet has said there is “never a dull moment” with Tim.
After several years of teaching, Janet was able to join Tim in co-owning NextHome CORE Realty and they worked together every day.
Janet taught wellness classes and had women’s groups to her home and shared with them how to cook and eat a healthy lifestyle, giving away all the food. She graduated from the Trinity Coaching Institute as a Biblical Life Coach and used her skills to mentor others at the real estate office and hundreds in the community. Janet led Bible Studies at Bible Study Fellowship for years, and was a daily reader of the Bible and a prolific note taker. In these last few years, Janet was ministering to others that had also cancer. While going through treatment, she made thousands of bracelets with words of encouragement embedded in the beads, and gave those and wooden hearts that her father made to the patients and staff at Arrington Cancer Center, Covenant Hospital, and hundreds of others, with a note inside asking… “Do you know Jesus?” Janet didn’t like to use the “C” word to give the enemy any advantage, but she was known to say that she “was a better person because of cancer!”
Janet is survived by her husband Tim Garrett, son Storm Driggers, daughter Darcy Driggers, and was an amazing Step-Mom to Tiffany Crayne (husband Austin) and Baylee Garrett.
Her father, Ralph Kelley is currently 96 years old and is here today.
She is also survived by her siblings: Philip Kelley and his wife Toni; David Kelley; Judy Cox and her husband Zane; Janie Boyles; Tim Kelley and his girlfriend Cele; Stewart Headquist and his wife Jamie, and Brother in Law Ed Garrett and his wife Beth– and a huge host of nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren, and we can’t leave out that she has 6 grand-dogs!
She was preceded in death by her mother Jearldyne Kelley, sister in law Jo Dee Kelley, sister in law Delen Kelley, brother in law Denny Boyles, and nephew Clancey Kelley.
