J.W. worked with his family as a custom harvester when he was young, and then he became a paint contractor in Hereford, Texas. Moving forward, J.W. took his wife and four children to Wellman, Texas, to farm. In his first year of farming, he won an award, known as the “Best Bale of Cotton for the Year of 1961 Season”. His final work adventure was developing a roofing company, “Ranco Roofing,” with his two sons, and this was his last career before he retired. His greatest devotion was the relationship he had with Verna, his wife. He always called her his “Queen,” and she called him her “King.”J.W. and Verna were both members of South Plains Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas. J.W.’s main goal in life was to be a devoted Christian and father. He was a rock for so many. One of his greatest memories was driving a tractor to Washington in the early 1970s during the farm strike on the capital steps. He loved teaching others and was always genuinely caring. Such as, he would give the shirt off his back to provide any assistance to others. J.W. knew how precious life was and loved his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids dearly. He enjoyed every moment in their presence.J.W. will be remembered as always giving Hope, Love, Faith, and the willingness to survive no matter what the circumstances were at hand.He would light up a room anywhere with his endless positive personality and jokes. He will truly be missed beyond the “Stars!” May he Rest In Peace…
