James Ray Hyatt beat the grip of Alzheimer’s disease and all our other worldly cares May 16, 2018. James Ray was born in Olton, Texas on December 2 1939. During that time span he lived. He lived a lot of life.
James Ray graduated from Olton, Tx. High School in 1958 having starred in football, basketball, track and baseball. He showed a few goats, but he couldn’t show them much….
After leaving Olton he graduated from Texas Tech in 1962, later earning a Masters in Education in 1967.
James Ray married Saundra Stout in 1964.
A Coach and a Teacher, James Ray helped shape and craft the lives of young men and women from Olton to Hale Center, Lockney, Amarillo Tascosa, Canyon and finally Lubbock Coronado.
Whether on the track, in the biology classroom, on the football field or in the gym, James Ray was a teacher and coach, leaving a lasting impact on many.
James Ray’s parents were Jim and Marguerite Hyatt, both preceding him in death along with a sister, Bobbie Jo Keller, and a son Matthew Wayne Hyatt.
James Ray is survived by his wife Saundra, his son James Ryan along with his wife Tessa and son Reed, his sister Brenda “Sam” Doran, husband Brian and their children and grandchildren.
James Ray is also survived by all those he taught and coached. Each and every one makes up a unique and special family that he was proud to claim and even prouder to watch as they grew and achieved great things in their own lives.
