James “Jim” V. Franks passed away Monday, January 22, 2018.
James Vancil was born on October 4, 1944 to Marshall and Ruby Johnston Franks in Borger, Texas. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1963 and Auto Body Repairs School in Oklahoma City, OK, in 1965. On August 13, 1963, James married the love of his life, Judy Kay McKernan in Pampa, Texas.
He enjoyed hands-on-projects, from building the family home, working on the cabin, repairing an automobile, or helping his grandkids with high school or college projects. Jim attended as many sporting events and school activities of his kids, grandchildren, niece and nephews as he possible could. He enjoyed making popcorn and coke floats for the grandkids and their friends.
Jim did body work for many of the body shops in Lubbock and Slaton.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Kay Franks of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Jamie Taylor and husband, Trent of White Deer, TX; son, Joel Franks and wife, Stacia of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Joel and Joshua Franks of Lubbock, TX, Kristin Taylor of Amarillo, TX, Jessica Taylor of Canyon, TX, Alexandria Taylor of White Deer, TX, and Kelsie Matthews and husband, Brian of Flower Mound; great-grandchildren, Marley Kerlin-Seville of Lubbock, TX, Rory Deaton of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Glenn Franks of Amarillo, TX, Dale Franks and wife, Suzanne of Amarillo, TX; brother-in-law, Pat McKernan and wife, Georgia; sister-in-law, Doris McKernan of Cabot, AR.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Ruby Bell Franks; brother, Larry Franks; brother-in-law, Bob McKernan; and niece, Sherry Crum.
