James “Jim” Gordon passed away on March 10, 2020. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will celebrate his life of 81 years at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Cooper Methodist Church in Woodrow, Texas . Friends are invited to share memories and expressions of sympathy for the family to cherish in the area below the obituary.Jim was born on April 23, 1938, to Hugh and Margaret Roxburgh Gordon in Corsicana, TX. Jim married Barbara Boucher Gordon on January 27, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas. Jim was raised in Midland, TX until he was enrolled in the San Marcos Academy. He lived on the campus and attended school there from the 6th grade through high school graduation. In 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably as a military DMZ police officer through 1959. He moved to Lubbock, TX and enrolled at Texas Tech University where he earned his master’s degree in Science. He followed his love to teach and became an educator. He taught math and science in the Lubbock Cooper school district, where he also served as a principal in the elementary, intermediate, and high school levels. After retiring he returned to the educational system to work with at-risk students. He had a special place in his heart for his students. He was never the same after encountering the Lord Jesus Christ. His relationship with his Savior impacted everything he did. He was passionate about sharing the Good news and serving others! He was involved in numerous ministries and attended Cooper United Methodist Church as well as Temple Mount Moriah. He was a lifelong student always looking to learn something new and a beautiful teacher of God’s word.Survivors include his two daughters, Christina (Mark) Wuensche, Monica (Cary) Sawyer; son, Anthony (Amy) Gordon; eight grandchildren, Trista (Luke) Carpenter, Britt (Cheree) Wuensche, Kalee (Slade) Cupps, Ryan (Brooke) Brown, Justin (Stefanie) Brown, Jordan McMillan, Carson Gordon, Aiden Gordon; ten great-grandchildren, Kaegen Carpenter, Kannen Carpenter, Conner Wuensche, Collyn Wuensche, Brady Brown, Cooper Brown, Boston Brown, Berkley Brown, Preslee Brown, Ryder Brown; sister, Cindy Eichelberger; two nieces, Beverly Green, Kathryn (Skyler) Aaron; two nephews, John (Erin) Eichelberger, James Eichelberger;He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Gordon; his father, Hugh Landrum Gordon; and mother, Margaret Ann Gordon.The family of Jim Gordon has designated the Cooper United Methodist Church, 16612 Loop 493 Lubbock, TX 79423 or Temple Mount Moriah c/o Irma 7409 Salem, Lubbock, TX 79424 for memorial contributions donated in his memory.
