With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Mark Hannsz, a cherished husband, father, Pops, and friend to many.
He was born on July 9, 1962, to the late James Roy and Grace Janette (Marugg) Hannsz in Haskell, TX. Mark grew up and graduated from Haskell High School. Mark married the love of his life Jana Lyn Hunt on October 2, 1982, in Haskell. They moved to Lubbock in 2013 with his job as a Measurement Specialist for Occidental Petroleum. His commitment to his profession, paired with his kind and friendly nature, earned him the respect and admiration of many. Mark was an active member of Monterey Church of Christ.
Throughout his life, Mark found fulfillment in his role as a father to his sons, Clay (Shana) Hannsz and Ryan (Shelbi) Hannsz; and daughter, Ashton (Griffin) Novak. He cherished his time with his grandchildren, Berkley, Brittyn, Morgan, and Haley Hannsz and greatly enjoyed watching them grow. Mark was extremely excited about the newest grandchild, Grant Novak arriving in a few months. He loved spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and looking for arrowheads.
His memory will be treasured by his surviving relatives, including his sisters, Charlotte (Robbie) Pieser and Kristie (Robert) Runnion, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service for Mark Hannsz will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Monterey Church of Christ. The service will honor his memory and the joy he brought to those around him.
As we gather to celebrate Mark’s life, we remember the warmth and kindness he shared with each of us. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
