James “Jim” Henry Diers, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Jim was born in Denver, Colorado, on May 14, 1943, to Theona and Edgar Diers. He graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School and attended Concordia University in Austin, Texas. After leaving Austin, Jim attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1968 with a master’s degree in education. Jim was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lubbock, where he met his future bride, Marsha Neunaber. They married on January 22, 1966. Marsha and Jim taught in the Lubbock Independent School District for over 25 years, touching the future of their city, state, and nation. After retiring, he pursued another personal passion, building a home remodeling and repair business. As Jim’s family and friends will tell you, he always had a project in the works.Most recently, he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church & School in Lubbock. He served as an elder and choir member over the years. In his free time, he enjoyed watching HGTV and Texas Tech sports. As a resident in Lubbock for over 60 years, he was respected by church members, colleagues, students and community.Jim was a loving husband, father, brother and friend.He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Marsha.Jim is survived by his sons, Michael and Jerrod; siblings, Robert Diers (Cho), Carol Springer (Tom), John Diers, and Thomas Diers; extended family members, Marilyn Murfee, Michelle Rogers, and Melissa Swanson (Paul); and by his many nieces and nephews.His life was filled with countless people who knew they could depend on him for advice, support and love. They will always remember him as a gentle giant. His calm demeanor was often the stabilizing force for so many of us in a chaotic world.A visitation will be Friday, October 8, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lakeridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock. The funeral will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 3:00 pm, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6700 98th Street, Lubbock.
