Jackie “Jack” Lee Gordon

Jack “Jackie Lee” Gordon’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to spreading the message of Christ’s love. He was born on January 11, 1952, in Brownfield, Texas to Oscar and Lorene Gordon. Graduating from Post High School in 1970, Jack married the love of his life Mary Ann Strawn on April 9, 1971, in Post, Texas. He continued his education at South Plains College where he earned a full scholarship to the University of North Texas as a vocal and performance major.  He later attended Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock and graduated in 1985. In 2001, he graduated from Lubbock Christian University with a BA in Bible Ministry.   Jack embarked on a spiritual journey that would touch the lives of many throughout his near 40-year career as a minister of the gospel. His fervor for ministry saw him serve communities in various cities, which include McAlister, Oklahoma, Deer Lodge, Montana, Clovis, New Mexico, McAllen, Texas, Pharr, Texas, and he served the last 25 years of his ministry in Slaton, Texas for the Hearts Together Church of Christ, and the First Christian Church. Also, during this period, he worked as a history teacher for Slaton High School for 10 years.

Aside from his spiritual calling, Jack shared his vocal talents with the world. Having honed his skills at the University of North Texas. While living in McAllen, Tx he performed with the South Texas Lyric Opera Company where he performed as the lead tenor in Phantom of The Opera, Hansel and Gretel and The Magic Flute. Jack delighted audiences with his performances in operas and as the cherished voice of the Slaton Tigers at local high school football games. His passion for music and ministry intertwined seamlessly, enriching the lives of those around him.

Jack’s legacy extends beyond his professional endeavors. He created a loving family with his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Gordon, and was a devoted father to his daughters, Suzanne Scott and husband Colt, Larissa Cable and husband Barrett, and Jenny Beth Conner and husband Jim Bob all of Lubbock. His grandchildren, Ryder, Jett, Sydney, Selah, Skye, Madelyn, Kyle, Mason, Charlie, Madilyn, Jaylee, Calli Beth, and Camryn held a special place in his heart, bringing him immeasurable joy and pride. Also survived by a brother, Charles Gordon of Santos, Texas along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack is now reunited with his parents, and brothers, Bobby, and Harold Gordon.

In the face of Jack’s passing on February 17, 2024, countless individuals mourn the loss of a compassionate soul who dedicated his life to serving others. As his loved ones gather to honor his memory, the Celebration of Life service is scheduled to take place at Hearts Together Church of Christ, Slaton, Texas on February 23, 2024, at 11:00 am. Prior to this, a visitation will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, Lubbock, Texas on February 22, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Jack’s commitment to helping others does not end with his passing. Those who wish to contribute to causes close to his heart may make donations to the Children’s Home of Lubbock or the Heritage House in Lubbock.
