Hosseinali Rasty

It is with heavy hearts and a sense of profound sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Hosseinali Rasty, on March 11, 2017, at the age of 91.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a quick wit and a wise gentle soul. Family and friends knew him as a fierce competitor and master of Backgammon and Rummikub, and he remained true to his culture proudly educating any listener about all things Persian.  Many folks observed him dutifully walking his neighborhood until his final days.  Hossein passed away peacefully in his sleep from complications of congestive heart failure during a brief stay at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Hossein was born on March 14, 1925 in the ancient city of Shiraz, Iran, to the late Tayyebeh and Khalil Rasty.  After completing his early technical education in Shiraz, he moved to the heart of the oil industry in southwestern Iran in the city of Abadan, where he attended an all-English technical college.  As in many of his fortuitous experiences in life, this afforded him an opportunity to become highly fluent in English while building his technical skills early in life.  He leveraged that experience to serve as a cross-cultural facilitator between Iranian and foreign nationals in the 1940s, rising in his early twenties through multiple administrative ranks within the Anglo-American oil and infrastructure companies that were building the oil industry in southwestern Iran. He moved to the capital, Tehran, by his late twenties and worked in managerial roles of increasing responsibility within the Iranian Ministry of Transportation and later in the private sector with the Japanese Trading Company, Marubeni, based in Tehran.   
Following his retirement in Iran, Hossein became a proud citizen of the United States in 1991 and moved to Lubbock, Texas shortly thereafter, living the remainder of his life in Lubbock while traveling across the USA to spend precious time with family and lifelong friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Jamileh of Lubbock Texas; son Jahan and wife Laurie of Lubbock, Texas, and son Siyamak and wife Beth of Sudbury, Massachusetts; and grandchildren Sarah Kate, Cameron and Kian;along with numerous members of extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Hossein’s life will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel Funeral Home, 6025 82nd St., Lubbock, Texas at a time and date to be announced. The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Robert Ordonez and staff, all who helped at Covenant Hospital and Crown Point Health Suites, and Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
