On Friday, March 24, 2023, Homer “Trey” Hensley III, age 71, passed from this life after a brief battle with cancer. Homer was born on May 26, 1951, to Homer II and Betty (Ater) Hensley in Lubbock, TX. After graduating from Monterey High School, he studied art at Texas Tech University.

Homer was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Homer married the love of his life, Lynn on September 18, 1973. They built a wonderful life together in Lubbock, TX. He spent an entrepreneurial career working with his brother, Rick for over 40 years. He was a selfless man and always thought of others before himself. As a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he had 41 years of sobriety and helped countless men during his lifetime. His constant smile and his loving presence will be missed forever by all who knew him.

Homer’s passion for art and his extraordinary talent were known by all. As an artist his entire life, he painted in many mediums, but preferred oil and watercolor. Even when he wasn’t in his studio painting, he was always sketching on a cocktail napkin or any piece of paper lying around. His work has been awarded and exhibited in galleries from New York to California and continues to be on display in many homes.

Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Lynn; son Homer Hensley IV, his wife Amanda and their children Harrison and Caroline; daughter Lauren Hensley Pravat, her husband Dr. Nara Pravat and their son Oliver; sisters Lisa (Darrell) Land and Linda Little; along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sarah, brother Rick Hensley, and sister Sandra Hogan.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 31, 2023, at First Christian Church.

In memory of a truly wonderful man and with much love to his family.

I just learned about Homer’s passing. He was a childhood friend, his family lived across the street from my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. We swam in his pool and played in the vacant lots, digging tunnels, playing baseball and playing with Horny Toads. It was always wonderful to run into Homer. He always had a smile and a hug for me. He was a kind man, a fine man. His artwork is amazing. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family. I’m very sad to know that he is no longer with us in body.

I hate it that you're gone. We keep losing the good ones among us. RIP Homer.

I'm very saddened to know Trey has left us. He was more than a very good family friend. Trey was family. My Dad Jack McClure always thought of Trey as one of his sons. I have a lot of great memeories of Trey when I was a little kid or "little brat" as Trey would call me. Trey was like a big brother to me growing up. Trey you will be missed. Rest In Heavenly Peace big brother.

I and very saddened to know Home has left us. He was a good friend at MHS, and although we only briefly touched base over FB.....I have strong fond memories of our friendship at MHS. Prayers for rest and healing for his family. David
