The family of Gene Hawkins will celebrate his life of 91 years at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 5, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He married Louise on August 21, 1948, in Bovina, TX.Gene graduated from Bovina High School in 1947. He then went to Wayland Baptist University where he attended from 1950-1953. After college, his journey led him to seminary from 1953-1956. He then served eight churches as pastor beginning in 1956. During this time, he was also the president of Kansas-Nebraska Missions from 1977-1979 until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, Gene became the Director of Missions for Lubbock from 1984-1995 and filled in as interim director twice after 1995. He also served as interim pastor for over 20 churches in the area during this time. He was the founder of The World Evangelism & International Committees and on the Wayland Baptist Board of Trustees for over 35 years.Gene was a faithful servant in the Lord’s army. He led many crusades throughout his life. In him you would find a mentor and a true friend. He never spoke negative about anyone, and he was the example of a great man.Survivors include his wife, Louise Hawkins; their son-in-law, John Horn; grandchildren, Jeff Horn, Katy (Matt) Ratliff; great-grandchildren, Grant Horn, Gage Horn, Gavin Horn, Ella Ratliff, Jake Ratliff, Nolan Ratliff; and sister, Roylene (Herman) Keel.He was preceded in death by father, Roy Hawkins; mother, Ruth Hawkins; son, Keith Hawkins; daughter, Nancy Horn; grandson, Greg Horn; brother, Charles Hawkins; brother, Harold Hawkins; and brother, Erith Hawkins.
