Gene “Fuzzy” Zara passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Sherill Gene was born on February 6, 1946, to Charles and Dola Zara in Lubbock, Texas. On April 4, 1983, he married the love of his life, Patricia Gibson in Abilene, Texas.
Fuzzy loved life and was a colorful character with colorful language. He loved to embellish a story to make it more exciting. His stories kept you on the edge of your seat wanting to hear more. Whether the stories were true or not, you always loved to hear him tell them. He loved to fish and was known as a good fisherman. You could never catch a fish as big as his. He developed and patented a fishing lure called the “Zara Spook.” His passion was his family and fishing, in that order. Anytime he could combine the two, he did. He loved to teach his grandkids the art of finding fish.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Zara; mother, Dola Miller; his children, Todd Zara and wife, Rhonda; Christy Oden and husband, Blaine; Sharla Morris and husband, Brian; Stephanie Rutledge; and Charles Zara; grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, and Lindsey Zara, Camryn Oden, Gabriel Olmos, Taylor and Makayla Rutledge, Christian, Morgan, Chloe, and Kale Zara; great-grandson, Everette Zara; sisters, Helen Burke and husband, Sam; and Debra Robertson.
