Margaret (Gayle) Rice passed away on July 1, 2021, at peace and surrounded by four generations of family. Family and friends will celebrate her life of 78 years at 11:00 am on Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, Lubbock. She married Charles (Chuck) Rice on August 15, 1958, in Houston, Texas. Chuck and Gayle have two children, Stephen, and Marty. Gayle’s gift in life was that of service. She was an avid volunteer for many years with Marriage Encounter, The Lubbock County Democratic Party, and as an Ombudsman for ten years, serving several nursing homes in Lubbock where she advocated for patients’ rights. Gayle was a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and The Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever possible.Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Chuck Rice, son Stephen (Shelly) Rice, daughter Marty (James) Gallagher, grandchildren Matt (Jennifer) Gallagher, Jon (Jessie) Gallagher, Emily (Taylor) Bristow, Jacob Rice (fiancé Leslie Yap), Zane Rice, Samantha Hendershot, Kendall Rice, great-grandchildren Charlotte, Madeline, Nathan, and William Gallagher, Kambyl and Krosbie Gallagher, Jack and Belle Bristow, sisters and brothers Karen Martin, Raynelle (Bob) Byerley, Monte (Peggy) Watson, Billy (Rita) Watson, JoAnne (Jim) Grossestreuer, Johnny (Patty) Watson, numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends who all meant the world to her.She was preceded in death by many relatives including her parents, Durwood and Frances Watson, brother-in-law Milton Martin, and niece Olivia Watson. Sadly, her brother Monte Watson suddenly passed away on July 4, 2021.
