A service to celebrate the life of Frank Mitchell is scheduled at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with full military honors, followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends. Frank Mitchell was born December 10, 1934 to Everette and Jayney (Hilderbrand) Mitchell in Morton, TX. He married Carol Aimee Kuntzsch on April 27, 1957 in Russell, KS. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage.
Frank attended Lubbock High School and then joined the United States Air Force in 1954 where he served his country for 20 years. He was a master crew chief of the SAC (Strategic Air Command) for the B47 and B52 bombers. Frank then went on to become a Flight Engineer for the C141 and served a tour in Vietnam on the C47. Frank was awarded numerous military awards during his time of service including the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1969 for flying an extremely hazardous and dangerous mission for the 360th Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron in Vietnam. Frank retired as a USAF Master Sergeant in 1974 and was a lifelong member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Mitchell; daughters, Vicki Turnbow, Lynda (James) Pierce, and Denise (Larry) Hostick; grandchildren, Joshua (Kendra) Ball, Autumn Turnbow, Matthew Walker, Joseph (Halie) Pierce, Sarah Hostick, and Melissa Hostick; five great-grandchildren; sister, Martelle Holt; brothers, Clyde Mitchell, and Loyd (Brenda) Mitchell; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Jayney Mitchell; brothers, Bennie, Darmon, Glenn and Don Mitchell; and sisters, Catherine O’Neal and Ann Wright.
