Marion Francine Gilbreath, known to her loved ones as Francine, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023, at the age of 98 in Lubbock, TX. She was born on April 3, 1925, in Amarillo, Texas, to R.C. and Gladys Young.
Francine was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Jim Gilbreath and his wife, Kathy, of Lubbock; and daughter, Kim Gilbreath of Galisteo, NM. Francine leaves behind a legacy of love through her four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Tracy Fenter and her husband, John, and children Aspen, Braden, Jake, and Justin of Lubbock; Bonnie Bufkin of Galisteo, NM and her son, Jaden Sissem of Monterey, CA; Kaki John, her husband, Robert, and their children, Averi and Abby of Austin; Dick Bufkin, his wife, Tiffany, and their children, Molly, Will, and Caroline of Carmel, CA.
She was preceded by Owen, her husband, of 76 years; her parents, R.C. and Gladys Young; and her brother, Dan Young.
Francine was a woman of many interests. She graduated from Lubbock High School and went on to earn her degree from Texas Tech University where she was a member of Ko Shari Social Club, which later became Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was also a sister of the AA Chapter of PEO; a member of The Junior League of Lubbock; and the Lubbock Women’s Club. Her faith played an important role in her life, and she was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1949 where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Francine had a love and zest for life. She loved to travel and was fortunate to see much of this world. She loved to entertain and also found joy in reading, dancing, and playing bridge and mah-jongg.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd St from 5:00-6:30 pm on Sunday, August 20. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 21 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3321 33rd St.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to be made to the Lubbock Area United Way Endowment, 1055 Main, Lubbock, TX 79401; Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3321 33rd St, Lubbock, TX 79410; Hospice of Lubbock, Inc., 3702 21st St, Lubbock, TX 79410; or a favorite charity.
Francine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her love for her family and friends will forever be cherished.
