Doyle Eugene Vanstory of Lubbock, 83, went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, January 22, 2021. Services will be 2 pm Wednesday, January 27, at Lake Ridge Chapel, Lubbock, with Rev. Bobby Dagnel, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lubbock, officiating. Private burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park at a later date with arrangements by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. The family will receive friends at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd St., from 6 to 8 pm, on Tuesday, January 26, and in lieu of flowers, suggests memorials be made to the Downtown Bible Class or the Benevolence food bank program at First Baptist Church, Lubbock.Eugene was born June 17, 1937, to J.W. (Bill) and Jeannette (Middleton) Vanstory, at Shallowater, Texas. He was raised with his younger brother Bob, on a farm west of New Deal, Texas, where he graduated from New Deal High School in 1955. After he attended a semester at Texas Tech, he married Peggy Joan Drachenberg of Smyer, Texas, on December 10, 1955, and began his professional passion of farming.Eugene and Peggy began raising a family while they farmed land at Becton and then Wolfforth. They moved to Morton in January, 1963, and began farming and ranching near Morton, in the Maple community. In early 1964, the family moved to Maple, living on the farm until early 1971 when they moved back to Morton and he continued farming and ranching near Morton and Muleshoe. Eugene retired from farming and ranching after 35 years, and he and Peggy moved to Lubbock where he continued working in real estate and estate planning, ventures that he began on a part-time basis several years before. He and Peggy celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2020.Eugene was a life-long Baptist, serving as deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and director of the high school Sunday school for 12 years at First Baptist Church in Morton. After their move to Lubbock, he was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a member of Downtown Bible Class, and he and Peggy worked in the Benevolence food bank program for over 20 years.Eugene Vanstory was a simple man. His daily uniform was a plaid flannel work shirt with Levi 501 jeans, red suspenders, and cowboy boots. He was passionate about his faith, his wife Peggy, his three children, his three beautiful granddaughters, and his profession. He was extremely proud that he was able to see his children and granddaughters get college degrees.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.Survivors include his wife Peggy; his daughter, Yvonna Hays, and her husband, Doug, of Dimmitt; his son, Douglas of Lubbock; his son, Eric, and his wife, Carissa, of Frisco; his granddaughters: Breanne Vanstory-Morgan, and her husband, Emmit, of Little Elm; Kaylee Vanstory-Ewing, and her husband, Hunter, of Dallas; and Lyndsay Vanstory, of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Douglas Vanstory, Eric Vanstory, Doug Hays, Emmit Morgan, Hunter Ewing, and Randy Vanstory.
