Ethel Louise Hawkins was born October 8, 1930, to E.H. and Mildred Shaw Moody in Lexington, OK. She married Gene Hawkins on August 21, 1948, in Bovina Texas. They shared over seventy two years of marriage. Louise attended Wayland Baptist University. She and Gene served eight churches and were interim ministers at over twenty churches in the area throughout their lives. Louise was always the best preachers’ wife and homemaker. No matter who was coming or what the occasion, Louise was always going to prepare an amazing meal and the best desserts. Her pot roast gravy was the best and the meringue on her pies always were just perfect. There was never a stranger that ever entered her life. Louise was a woman of many hats. Wife, mother, NANA, Granny Lou, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, sister in Christ and a best friend. Her love for Jesus always shown through her action and her words. She showed you love and support, sometimes a little feisty, but you never had to wonder where her heart was. Louise loved unconditionally. She always had a ready smile and a hug for you. She was a survivor in so many ways and never let her faith waiver in the face of adversity. Louise always praised God for everything in life, good or bad. She was a true example of a Godly woman and faithful servant.
Louise is survived by son-in-law, John Horn of Petersburg; grandchildren, Jeff Horn of Petersburg, Katy (Matt) Ratliff of New Braunfels; great-grandchildren, Grant Horn, Gage Horn, Gavin Horn, Ella Ratliff, Jake Ratliff, Nolan Ratliff; sister, Sue Phillips of Dimmitt.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gene Hawkins; parents, E.H. and Mildred Moody; a daughter, Nancy Horn; a son, Keith Hawkins; a grandson, Greg Horn; two brothers, Weldon Moody and Alfred Moody and a sister, Yvonne Stevenson.
She passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 93 years old.
In lieu of flowers, the family has designated the Gene and Louise Hawkins Endowed Scholarship at Wayland Baptist University for donations in her memory.
