Ernest Lopez departed this life and entered the kingdom of Heaven to glisten in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 2, 2018. A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by the Holy Rosary service at 7:30 p.m., September 6, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mass on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by internment at Resthaven Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to Lakeridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.

Ernest was born on August 7, 1965 to Ysidro and Rosemary Garcia Lopez in Lubbock, Texas. He attended Lubbock Roosevelt ISD where he excelled in academics and athletics which included football, powerlifting and track. Ernest attended South Plains College and began working at United Supermarkets immediately after his high school graduation. It was at United where his true talents began to develop and shine which included his love to serve people and his infectious smile. Ernest was a hardworking man with a work ethic to rival the most enduring of men. His perseverance and relentlessness epitomized his career as he was promoted to Produce Manager at United 34^th and Q at the early age of 19. His career as a produce manager afforded him a plethora of experience that eventually earned him the position of Produce Supervisor, Lubbock Region. From the floors of many United grocery stores to the fields of Chile where he developed relationships with United Supermarkets Produce suppliers he always served true to the United Family Mission. Ernest was a loyal team member of United; always serving the people of Lubbock with a smile for the past 35 years. Ernest had many interests away from work and the first was loving and caring for his first grandchild, Na’Zaiah. He was also a football enthusiast, cheering his Red Raiders on Saturdays, but rooting and hollering for his Dallas Cowboys on Sundays which was a cherished pastime in the Lopez household. He also enjoyed golf and time with family and friends.

Survivors include mother of his children, Martha Maria Lopez; children, Christopher Bernardo Lopez and wife, Jessica; and daughter, Kristan Alyssa Lopez; granddaughter, Na’Zaiah Alezay Lopez; father, Ysidro Lopez, wife, Maria Lupe; siblings, Ysidro Lopez, Jr., Sylvia Lopez, Patricio Lopez and wife, Elizabeth; Jessica Deleon and husband, Abel; Lucas Garcia, Carlos Lopez and wife, Melissa; Annamarie Sanchez and husband, Thomas; Andy Lopez and wife, Denee; Gabriel Lopez along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Garcia.

Hey Love,Your princesses and big boy miss you so much! Please pray for us. Your in thought every second, minute, hour, day until eternity. Just want you to know that it broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home. Thank you, for giving me the very best of you which is your children. I find comfort in knowing that your left us to start our new kingdom in God's glory. I was blessed by God to know Ernest as a friend and a Produce co-worker for over 25 years. He was dedicated, loyal, friendly, caring and of the highest character. Anytime we saw him, we wanted to visit with him as long as we could. He was a blessing to know and we loved him for all these reasons. We truly believe God in Heaven has said to him "well done good and faithful servant". We will miss him here but know he is in a better place. When I think of Ernest, I think about all the great times that we had, growing up and attending Roosevelt. He always made me laugh, and I never really saw him in a bad mood. I remember in one of our classes-Spanish class, actually, we were all grouped together in the back part of the room, left to our own devices, and of course, there was Mr. Ernest, making us all laugh at whatever particular joke he was making. He was genuine in his love of people from all walks of life. It did not matter to Ernest, he was going to treat everyone in an equally kind and caring manner. I will miss you my dear childhood friend...until we see each other again in God's heavenly presence.

Ernest your smile would light up a room, your laughter and jokes made our days that much brighter! You will truly be missed! I’ll never forget all the wonderful memories I have working with you. You are what made United a great place to work! I know you’re smiling down on all of us who were lucky enough to have known you. May God wrap his arms around the Lopez family.

My heart and prayers are with all of Ernest’s closest friends & family members. I know he meant so much to many and his passing was a surprise. I will always remember him as such a sweet gentleman, someone who smiled even with his eyes, and who knew how to have fun & enjoy family & friends. Rest In Peace, Ernest...until we meet again!

Ernest will certainly be missed. Always there for there good times, bbq’s and celebrations with our family. Ernest was especially there for the hard times in our families lives. It made this past week just that much harder not seeing Ernest’s infectious smile and caring heart to check on the how the family was doing after mom’s death. But we hang on the fact that you are in a better place helping our family in heaven preparing our rooms and getting the party and bbq planned for when you greet us at the door of heaven to welcome us home. Now we will all try to heal together at the loss of Ernest. It is in the healing that will give is entry to places that we could never imagine.

Ernest always had a smile on his face when I would see him. Prayers for all of the Lopez family.

Although its been a couple of years since I have seen Ernest, I still can remember all the good moments we shared as friends. Whether if it was working together or playing side by side on the football field, we created some wonderful memories. After our years in high school, Ernest showed what a quality man should be...he will be missed and admired by many.

I have always admired Earnest. I am lucky to have known him and shared the high school experience with him. I always looked up to Earnest, as he was an upper classman at Roosevelt - he showed us younger Eagles how to be loyal to your school and teammates. What a great and rewarding experience it was to coach his son, Chris down the road. I remember Ernest being at every practice and game and always being supportive of the kids and the coaches no matter the result. I have a heavy heart with the loss of Earnest - the Roosevelt community has lost a great Eagle.

Ernest was one of the nicest people I have ever known. I am going to miss visiting with him. His love for his grandchild knew no bounds. God bless you, Ernest and your family.

Ernest brought joy to those who knew him. I enjoyed working along side him. He had such a respectable work ethic and had a big heart for his family, his company, his colleagues and his friends.

I’m still in shock. I don’t know where to begin on how much I was grateful for knowing this amazing man. He always went above and beyond to help me. I loved the passion he had for his work. I’m so glad I was able to tell him how much he helped me. He was so humble when I called him my Superhero. I’m glad every time I talked to him, I had him laughing from all my nonsense! One thing he always talked about was his granddaughter. He was so in love with her. His face always lit up when he talked about her. He always showed us pictures of her. I’ll never forget him. Ernest was like a brother to a lot of us. I graduated with Ernest in 1983 from Roosevelt and we shared the bond of brotherhood that only Texas high school football can do. We sweated. laughed and cried together many times during our days at Rosey. I'll never forget how hard you worked and how good of a friend that you were. We pray for your family and loved ones. Love you, brother!
