He was born to Eugene and Mildred (York) Greer on April 3, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas. His father owned and operated Gene Greer Motor Machine Shop in Lubbock.Eddie attended Hutchinson Junior High and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1965. He then attained his BBA degree from Texas Tech University in 1970.Eddie worked in construction after his graduation until he was employed by Atmos Energy (formerly Pioneer Natural Gas) in 1971. He worked for Atmos for 38 years and held the positions of Engineering Assistant, Town Manager, Training Director, and Safety Manager. Eddie lived in Lubbock, Plainview, Lockney, Amarillo, and Dallas while employed by the company. He retired from Atmos Energy in April 2009.Eddie married the love of his life Kaye (Rodman) Greer, on September 17, 1988, in Amarillo. They lived in Dallas and Lubbock. Kaye and Eddie loved to travel and took 25 ocean cruises, one river cruise, and numerous driving trips. They visited every state in the United States except Wisconsin. Eddie enjoyed his family very much, making frequent trips to Birmingham, AL, to visit kids and grandkids.Eddie and Kaye were active members of LakeRidge United Methodist Church and the Trinity Sunday School class for many years. Eddie started the Safety and Security program at the church while Kaye served on the Board of Trustees for several years.Eddie had a life-long interest in law enforcement. He went to the law enforcement academy in Levelland, and upon graduation, he obtained his Texas Peace Officer license. He served as a reserve deputy for about one year for the Lynn County Sheriff’s Office and then moved his Commission to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office.His goal was to be the best peace officer possible. He served Lubbock County for about 21 years, 12 of those years leading the division as Reserve Commander. He obtained the highest level of certification from the Commission, that of Master Peace Officer. He was also awarded the “Reserve Deputy of the Year” in 2018.Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (Dixie Stevens).He leaves behind his loving wife, Kaye; their daughter, Ashlee Chatham and husband, Winn Chatham (Birmingham, AL) and their children, Chloe Chatham and Claire Chatham; son, Erick Gum and wife, Walela Gum (Bracketville, TX) and their children, Shaddine Gum Wilson (Annapolis, MD) and Whitney Gum (Bracketville, TX); sister in law, Debbie Born (Austin, TX); and loving nephews, nieces, and cousins.
