Dr. L. Wayne Culp, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and dedicated physician, will be remembered and celebrated for his remarkable life of 88 years. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love for his family and community.
Born on November 21, 1936, in Pampa, TX, L. Wayne Culp dedicated his life to medicine and helping others. After earning his BA from Texas Tech in 1958, he married his beloved wife, Claudette Hill, on June 17, 1959. His passion for healthcare led him to graduate from the University of Southwestern Medical School in 1962 and complete his internship at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. He served with honor as a Captain in the U.S. Public Health Service from 1963-1965. Dr. Culp established his medical practice in Lubbock in 1965, where he devoted 38 years to caring for his patients with unwavering dedication.
An active member of numerous professional organizations, including The American Medical Association and The Texas Medical Association, Dr. Culp contributed to the medical community as Treasurer of The County Medical Society and held various prominent positions within local organizations. His commitment to service extended beyond medicine; he also served on the administrative boards of First United Methodist Church, The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and Texas Tech Area Council.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Culp enjoyed hunting, wine tasting, exploring culinary delights, reading, and traveling, embracing life to the fullest. He retired from his medical practice on July 1, 2004.
Dr. Culp is survived by his loving children, Cindy Culp and Doug (Pamra) Culp; his treasured grandchildren, Kelsey (Ethan) Winegarner and Tyler Culp; and his devoted brother, James Culp. He now rests with his beloved wife, Claudette, and his parents, W.J. and Zula Mae Culp, who preceded him in death.
