Doyle Vogler, a man whose life was a testament to love, laughter, and the power of friendship, passed away on May 26, 2023. Doyle was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. His warm smile, genuine nature, and magnetic personality will forever be remembered by everyone who knew him.

Doyle was born to Walter and Louise Vogler on January 3, 1962, in Hereford, TX. As a child he had the opportunity to work on the family farm. He developed a strong work ethic at an early age. He enjoyed and participated in band playing the French Horn and was successful in academics. Doyle graduated Salutatorian from Hereford High School in 1980 and then attended West Texas State University and graduated in 1984 with a BS in mathematics and biology. He worked as an actuary in Oklahoma City for 4 years as a statistician for the United States Department of Agriculture. Doyle made a career change using an emergency teaching certificate he taught mathematics for Gruver ISD. In 1989 he earned a BS in secondary education from WTSU. In 1996 he received his M. ED in educational leadership from Texas Tech. Doyle taught mathematics and coached tennis at Lubbock High before becoming an administrator. He served as an Associate Principal and Principal at Lubbock High School. In 2009 Doyle served as executive quadrant principal and as associate superintendent for Lubbock ISD until his retirement in 2022.

Doyle had an amazing impact on students, parents, and teachers. He focused on students and demonstrated how to work with all in a positive manner. He earned numerous awards during his career.

Doyle was active in the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and was serving as the Treasurer for the Texas International Baccalaureate Schools Organization at the time of the death. He was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. He was named Lubbock Teacher of the year and runner-up Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas Education Agency.

He was a dog lover as Jake and Bandit were perhaps the most pampered Shih Tzu’s in the city. Doyle also loved his cars and motorcycles as he bought and sold both on a regular basis. Harley-Davidsons and BMWs seemed to be his favorites. While he loved his dogs and enjoyed his vehicles, he was well-known for his kind and giving spirit. He loved people and always took time to listen and hear them share stories about their families.

Doyle is survived by his mother, Louise Vogler; loving brother, Brian Vogler, and wife, Cathy; his niece, Taylor Vogler; his nephew, Kase Vogler; his dear friend, Randy Kelsay; and his dogs, Jake and Bandit. Doyle was preceded in death by his father, Walter Vogler. While these individuals will surely miss Doyle’s physical presence, they can take solace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire them in the years to come.

Doyle’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. CDT at the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, located at 1300 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, Texas, 79401. A reception will follow at the same location starting at 3:30 p.m.

As we come together to honor Doyle, let us all strive to keep his memory alive by sharing our favorite stories of him, laughing at the moments that brought joy to his life, and embracing the love that he so generously shared with us all. We encourage you to leave your memories on this page as a tribute to a life well-lived and a man who will always be remembered with love and affection.

We were so saddened to hear of Doyle's passing. Our deepest condolences go out to the family🙏✝️🙏

I will remember Doyle's kind smile and listener's heart. We were blessed to have him in this district. He significantly impacted Lubbock ISD students, teachers, and administrators.

I was not lucky enough to have met this marvelous man, but I know he's so loved. I know people who were close and whose lives were positively impacted by him. What a blessing to see the celebration of his life and reflection from those who loved him.

Mr. Vogler was one of the kindest human beings I have ever met. He was one of the assistant principals when I went to school, and I later worked at LISD while he was associate superintendent. Generations will continue to benefit from his commitment to helping others. He will be greatly missed.

to the family and second of. I went to Lubbock high school and finished with Mr Volger in may 28 2004 there were so many times I wanted to give up. But Mr Volger was like no you have finished with your class thanks for always believing in me and you will be truly missed

My life is better for having know Doyle. He inspired me to be a better, kinder, and more compassionate person. He saw the best in everyone. He touched all who knew him for good. His memory will be a blessing for me and all who have the privilege of knowing him.

Our deepest condolences to the family! Doyle was a great educator, encourager and friend to the Moody family. He will be missed!!

So many memories. FRom riding on the bell trailer at the 4th on Broadway, to graduations, proms, school openings, endings and more. He was a friend and colleague to so many. He was a great supporter of allowing me to reinvent the job as time went on. Never the nay sayer, but always wise to know when to change direction. Never got to spend enough time with him and had hoped to have more opportunity once he "retired". He loved life and people. Was always learning, always seeking knowledge. I will miss hearing his voice which always made me smile.

Coach Vogler was like no other. He radiated joy from the inside out in everything he did. There was no one's path he crossed in life that their interaction & experience with him did not leave an imprint on their heart as a true heartfelt memory that can always be reflected upon and accompanied by his quintessential Coach Vogler laugh. Since graduating from Lubbock High in 1995 I had the pleasure of seeing him either when in town visiting my family or moving back to Lubbock for a short while after the passing of my father. Coach Vogler was a man that knew how to show up for others, and he did just that for my mother and family upon the passing of my father. These are the moments in life that you see the true genuineness and authenticity of an individual shine through during others time of need. I have some truly fond memories from my time playing tennis with him on the LHS Tennis Team. The practices were great, and the road trips were even better. Running lines on the court…not so great 😊 and he made for sure we did it so we could perform our best on the court. Each time I have seen him since graduating he has been able to pick me out of a crowd and brag on me for all the things I have accomplished since that time. I saw him only a few weeks ago in the airport and he gave me a big hug while saying, “Jeana, what are you doing?!” Later that day I received a text from him saying, “It was great seeing you, Jeana!”. These are the types of experiences so many of us have had with him and will forever remember, cherish, and continue to share about as we all share our life experiences with others whose path we cross as well. I will continue to do my part in sharing my joy, experience, and strength with others in life just as Coach Vogler did with me. He will be greatly missed, and I find comfort in knowing that he has left a lot of imprints on a lot of people’s hearts throughout his life’s journey and I am fortunate to say that I am one of those people.

Doyle was the kindest, most generous human being. I had the pleasure of working with him over the last few years fairly closely with IB campuses. He was always quick to give encouragement, practical advice, a wealth of expertise and friendship. He was truly a gift to all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly.

Doyle was my daughter's principal and a happy, familiar face at Lubbock High. He became my friend years later as we sat in the ICU waiting room for days it seemed, talking between visiting hours while our loved ones struggled near the end of their lives. Every time I saw Doyle after that he greeted me with a warm hug, asking about my daughter and honoring the connection we made during those difficult days. I will never forget his heart, his courage or his kindness. My sincerest condolences to all who loved him.

I was so saddened to see and hear of Coach Vogler’s passing. I want to express my prayers and deepest condolences to his family and friends and to countless souls of all that he touched and will miss him dearly. I will always remember him and in such a positive and inspirational light. Doyle was such an inspiration…always positive, always cheerful, always smiling, always kind, always genuine, such an amazing friend and mentor to all, always willing to stand for what is right and stand up and be there for others…anyone…he didn’t care who it was…he was there and always had your back in such love. A true inspiration he was and always will continue to be. A true heart of gold. I know it is a true blessing for anyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path—deepest condolences to all whose lives he touched and changed❤️🙏 he will always be remembered and honored…

We will never forget the lasting impact Doyle had on the students of LISD and on both of us. We will always treasure our times together.

Doyle was my daughters tennis coach when he first moved to Lubbock to get his Masters. There was nothing like a road trip to various towns to compete on the court. You just never knew what would happen. I do seem to remember a good fight of sorts that involved M&Ms. Wouldn’t want to clean that mess up. I also remember the threat to put one particular person on the hood of the van and use him as a bug catcher I think it was. The best thing about Doyle was his overall demeanor. He loved his students to the max. He did more sideline therapy than the pros did. Every students knew they could go to him and the situation never ever went further than where he and that student were standing. He was such a blessing and just a great overall person to know. He will be missed by so many people on so many levels. God bless you all.

Doyle was pure sunshine. Full of life, love and laughter. He always had a twinkle in his eye like he was in on a private joke. He had an amazing sense of humor. Loved all my time I spent with Doyle and Randy. My heart goes out to his love, his family, and his many friends.

I graduated from Lubbock High School in 2001 and Mr. Vogler was my principle. I was having some issues with a disgruntled coach and I'll never forget how he stepped in and advocated for me, and how amazing it felt to have a principle with that much care and compassion for his students. He was one of the most kindhearted people I ever met. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Vogler's family and loved ones.

An extraordinary gentleman and friend to so very many. Doyle left an indelible mark on so many, and will be missed, by as many. Godspeed, brother Doyle.

Vogler was an amazing person. He was my high school assistant and later head coach for tennis. He made the early morning van rides more fun. If ee ever got down when we played, he was there to say something funny. Later, he became a friend. When I came back to visit last summer we met up. He had not changed a bit. He made me laugh and we remembered some great stories. He was one of a kind and I will miss my coach and friend.

Doyle was a true educator one who was dedicated to serving Lubbock ISD. We would meet at the airport on our way to Austin and then returning home always discussing our jobs but most of all our fur babies. Jake and Bandit were the apple of Doyle's eye, he so loved them. I will always remember his smile it was infectious.. RIP dear friend you will be missed.

He is dearly loved and cherished by his colleagues at TCIS. His gentleness and kindness touched all of us. His memory will be an inspiration.

I truly wish I had known Doyle better, we saw each other more as kids at the family reunions. My mom Laverne would always speak fondly of him. Anytime I would hear about Doyle from family members or my sister everything I heard described a fabulous, kind and giving man. My heart is saddened that we have lost such a kind soul.

There are no words to express the loss of this wonderful human being! I am proud to have called him my friend; I will cherish the times in Lubbock at the games and visiting at home with the dogs, and I appreciate all that he taught me about secondary work in IB and the model he set for us within TIBS. It's hard to imagine moving forward without his presence - Doyle, you have left a huge impact on the lives of so many and we will remember and love you always!

Doyle has been a friend for many years to my family. He was my daughter’s tennis coach at LHS and he quickly became a friend to our entire family. He was a true friend as well as an LISD colleague where he was a mentor to many and a friend to all! He set an example for all of us to follow as he knew how to make everyone feel special and valued! I’m a better person because I knew him! Rest in Peace, my friend.

We have lost a great friend. He was so faithful to check on Patrick and visit us. He was just the best person, so loving, positive, energetic, and joyful. We love him and will always treasure our memories of him.
